That's the spirit! I wish all wagers of this war (on the US/UK side) would hold similar sentiments.

I've seen nothing to make me believe otherwise. ;)

That was one hell of a speech, Donut. Great find!

</font>
Agreed, on both points!

Thanks very much for the speech Donut! I'm just a bit teared up actually. Timber's right...That commander, and really, most British, do have a knack for bringing out the beauty in the language.

I saw bits of Donald Rumsfeld's Address to the Troops, and, even though I'm a supporter, I have to say, I wish that his speech had been even half as eloquent, passionate, and moving.

I cut that bit from the speech.

I heard it reported last night that the Stars and Stripes had been raised over Umm Kasar (sp) and I knew at that time that it was at odds with this speech. I saw a photo of the flag in place this morning. I understand that it has since been lowered and removed, and a statement has been issued by the US forces that is in accord with the excerpt from the speech. Basically it said we are not here as a conquering army, we are here to liberate.

I think that this message is a great one to send to the world, even though there was a brief missed step overnight.

Any Iraqi soldier who is crazy enough to keep fighting better pray to his God that we don't send the Gurkhas in.

As it was mentioned, I thought I would provide a bit of background info for those that don't know - the Gurkhas' (brigades of nepalese soldiers) preferred weapon is the Kukri, a fearsome weapon that they use to decapitate their opponents. They are generally regarded as efficient, skilled and totally fearless.

They have had centuries of practice. :D Here's a good example from Shakespeare:

In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility
But when the blast of war blows in our ears
Then imitate the action of the tiger
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage
