Bish, bosh and bash em that usually works ;)
. . . . . Now for some real advice, for people who are really stuggling to beat dragon's I recommend traps. Place 6 snare's around the unfortunate beastie and then attack. As soon as it turns hostile the traps will set off and the dragon will drop..............it kind of takes the challenge out of it, so this is a strategy best left to people who have lost days of sleep trying to kill the thing and are on the verge of throwing there PC out of the window. |
If you are role-playing the game as much as possible, and/or as realistically as possible, then I would advise the following:
- Try to bypass and/or destory any protective spells the dragon may have raised. - Try to avoid melee combat with the dragon. Instead, use ranged attacks and/or weapons. Many arrows will rarely miss their target, and attacking from a distance ensures a safe distance from the dragon's claws. Beware of a breath attack, though, as it is ususally particularly devestating. Take care and good luck. |
Prepare, prepare, prepare!!!
As Sazerac said, use the absolutely toughest available summoned monsters as cannon fodder. Summon them BEFORE casting your group buffing spells, since you want the buffing magics to help your summoned allies as well! ;) While a fire elemental may be able to resist Fiirkrag's fire damage, it may not be able to damage the dragon. Tough summoned monsters are more than capable of dealing out good damage on a dragon. Don't overlook this. But don't bother summoning animals. Bears may be tough, but they are as slow as molasses. A wing buffet practically takes them out of the battle. Use all of the best buffing magics available. Prot. against Evil. Resist Fear. Haste. Stoneskin on mages. Major or minor globes of invulnerability on mages. Bless. You get the idea. If you have 2 mages in your party, separate them. If you have a cleric in your party, cast Holy Smite CONSTANTLY!!! Have your mage(s) ready to cast breeching spells the INSTANT a dragon brings up stoneskins. Once your mage(s) is higher level, Horrid Wilting is an excellent spell. Comet (ToB 9th level spell) is excellent as well. Archer kit characters are AWESOME dragonslayers. Ultra low THAC0's, so they'll never miss. Make it difficult for dragons to cast spells without being disrupted. Also, even if wing-buffetted, the long range of their bows mean that they have less ground to cover before they're back in range. I think that it's useful to have a couple of your frontline melee characters engage the dragon in melee, along with your summoned monster allies. Definitely use any anti-dragon equipment you have, particularly the dragonslayer longsword. (double damage vs dragons). SURROUND the dragon in melee so that a wing buffet can only affect a few of the melee-ers. If you have a character that's taking serious damage, have that character run away and start sucking down the healing potions. Once you've engaged the dragon, NEVER LET UP!!! Don't hold ANYTHING back! (Exception: To quote Darth Vader, "No Disintegrations!". You don't want to disintegrate whatever treasure the dragon may have.) |
i just took on frikragg and he fell like a litte baby!!! what i did was i used strength of one, improved haste on my best fighter, haste on the rest, bless, then i summoned 2 mardakennians swords, but the swords in front of him, 3 people on the left and 3 on the right, then made the swords attack then casted LOWER resistance on him. then just fought him and fought and he charmed one member of my team but i took her out (he got to imoen) then he fell like a wuss!! hes not that hard if u can get mardakenians swords, cuz he will try to kill them when they wont die.

easy...send your woriors forward...keep two mages back (one would work but 2 are better) and cast 1-2 lower resistence...then a finger of death...and death he is!

How to kill a dragon... the same way you kill everything else, with brute force. There is nothing more satisfying then seeing your weapons cause a giant lizard fall and scream in pain.

About the cannon fodder, summon Spider Spawn!! I grew tired of my onslaught against the shadow dragon and then I summoned two sword spiders. They were hitting him 9-12 HP per attack, and they attack swift!!
