So I was wondering what everyone's character from baldur's gate was. For those of you who have more than one character, whose the apple of your eye.
This is my main guy, ive run him through three times. Byrd Half-elf Fighter lvl 8 bows **** large swords ** strength 19 dex 20 const 20 intelligence 9 wisdom 11 charisma 19 So who else is out there |
Oh well... the only time I´ve finished:
Human Ranger lvl 7 (Chaotic Good) can´t remember profencies, but apparently bows and large swords STR: 13 (reason why he was never exported) DEX: 18 CON: 16 INT: 9 WIS: 12 CHA: 12 I only rerolled a couple of times, that´s why the stats. |
Terroh
Paladin Level 1 Str. 18/96 Dex. 18 Con. 18 Int. 4 Wis. 18 Cha. 18 I have several other paladins and they all have the same stats 18's all the way except for Int. I like to play paladin parties. |
Paladin lvl 6:
Str: 18/26 (will soon be 19) Dex: 19 Con: 19 Int: 9 Wis: 18 Cha: 19 (some really good dice rolls ) Bow ** Long Swords ** Spiked weapons ** (Never used any, but never needed to place the *'s elsewhere) Insane |
Paladin
Level 7 or 8 (Can't remember) STR - 19 DEX - 15 (18) with gauntlets CON - 19 WIS - 15 INT - 8 CHR - 18 (20) with cloak Bow, large swords, blunt weapons |
My first computer RPG character ever.
Jentl, a human mage. Not specialized. I think I got to around level 10-12. I'm not sure if I had a full party. Probably I didn't. All I know that he had maxed out int but he was weak in all others. I didn't even know that rerolling-thingy then It was hard as hell in the beginning. One spell casted and you had to sleep already. But the character that you make when you know nothing about the game or what are good stats, are the best. He was pretty crappy but the game was challenging and I loved it. The game and the char The same thing with Fallout 1. I'm a huge Fallout fan. You can ask almost anything from me But the first game and the character. I only remember that he had 10 luck so I got the alien weapon. But it's the same thing in BG and Fallout. When you play them again, you know how to put your stats and you end up making min-max character. Ofcourse it's you who puts the stats but I just get so annoyed with a "crappy" char, because I know how much easier some fight would have been if I would have taken the 18 str. I noticed that fighter would be way better than a mage later on. It's been a year or so when I tested a fighter a bit. I remember making a dwarf fighter and I killed all the guards from Candlekeep with it. Tell me how's that possible? |
Name: Dace De'Briago (didn't see that one coming)
Class: Fighter Level: 7 HP: 105 Strength: 19 Dexterity: 19 Constitution: 19 Wisdom: 21 Intelligence: 19 Charisma: 7 This character will be made a Kensai when I finally get him into SoA (grand mastery in Katanas, Celestial Fury +5/Acid Katana +4). Charisma will be modified to 25 via a bug This character is probably about the best you can legitimately get Oh, and yes, he will be dualled to either a mage (99% chance) or a thief (yeah yeah...) Hope you are are drooling over the thought of this character. Perfection requires minimum 93 in stat points (18*5 = 90, 3 for Charisma). Oh, and I am a true powergamer, so this character is TRUE NEUTRAL. hehehe. [ 02-24-2003, 06:26 PM: Message edited by: Dace De'Briago ] |
Hmm in BG1 I always prefered mage characters, mostly due to the fact that I didn't really like the NPC mages all too much. Edwin was the only really powerful one, and I couldn't stand to have a Minsc-hater in my group ;) But building a mage from scratch was really enjoyable as you start the game weak as a kitten and grow to a fairly accomplished wizard by the end.
Oh and you guys have some crazy stats on your Paly's and Fighters. That's just ridiculous |
It's hard to pick a favourite but this one scores high for interest and originallity:
Name: Almost Snow White Level 7 Race / Class Half-Elf / Bard Strength 10 Dexterity 15 Constitution 12 Intellegence 15 Wisdom 8 Charisma 15 Weapon Skills n/a Time with party 63 days No. of Kills 0 XP gained 0 Special Ability Getting small people to do her evil deeds BardSong Continuous loop of Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho Whistle while you work Everybody want to rule the world This is the road to Hell Ps. It's not hard do guess who's in the party PPs Can somebody explain to me why people need high stats in BG1(except for newbies). I figure that high stats means you're lucky at rolling dice but want an easy game, low stats means you role-play for smarter tactics. You choose. |
My *favorite* was a solo Gnome Illusionist, Gnome Alone. Stats were nothing remarkable; I simply drained CHA and WIS to boost other stats to their limits. He sure was a lot of fun though.
Presently, I'm occupied with a fun little Halfling Fighter, Lepre Con (Green tunic, paleskin, red hair); Lawful Evil, clvl 7. --Stats STR 11 (No fullplates here. Not even chain, really.) DEX 18 CON 16 (Starting CON: 15) INT 13 WIS 14 CHA 14 I rolled until I got a group of stats that looked satisfactory, then arranged them to taste. I usually find this rolling strategy gets more interesting results than simply raising everything to 18, and it permits some freedom in padding the stats I want nice and bulky (in this case, Dex/Con). --Proficiencies Missile Weapons ++++ (Read: Darts!) Small Sword: ++ (Primarily for Dagger of Venom) Darts are his primary method of dealing death, though he also keeps a Sling with Bullets +1 handy for things immune to normal darts. (Easier keeping Bullets +1 on-hand than it is Darts +1.) He can manage about 40 damage per round: 9-12 dmg/dart, 4 ApR. -Lem |
Nice one Lemmy, that's good role-playing.
All together now ...... "One Hundred and Eighty !!!" |
Funny how there are so many strong, deft, healthy, charismatic, yet simpleminded folk wandering about the Sword Coast... ;)
Pirengle: female half-elf level 6/6 cleric/ranger racial enemy: kobold prof stars: two each in missile, blunt, and spiked primary weapons: +2 war hammer/+4 shield against missiles, +1 sling with +2 bullets stats (after reading all the tomes in the game): STR: 18/00 (gauntlets of ogre power, originally 15) DEX: 15 CON: 14 INT: 14 WIS: 16 CHA: 16 Teamed up with Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Minsc, and Dynaheir to bring goodness, light, and hamster justice to the world. |
Mine are a bit that I need to remember (I haven't finished the game with him but I'll show his stats at Lvl 2 that he's on now (going through Nashkel))
Sir Sparhawk Lawful Good Human Male Paladin Str 18/21 Dex 18 Cons 11 Int 9 Wis 13 Cha 17 Specialised in Long Swords Proficient in Bows and Pole-Arms I'm going to upgrade his stats later in Candlekeep and use tomes to upgrade str, dex and cons. (can you use the cheats on multiplayer cos I'm having problems) |
Pirengle, I see you have played as Cleric/Ranger. This is one class I never tried, until recently. I played for a little while but found nothing special from the multi-class options. I just seemed to have a Cleric who leveled up slowly. Does it get better at high levels, presumably beyond BG1 it could get interesting. How was it for you?

My hitpoints are around 35. No big deal--Minsc has 59 and Khalid has 68. One Pirengle quaffs a potion of giant strength and draws upon her holy might, she's right out there tanking with the big boys. |

Currently distracting me from my proper party game is a solo character:
Gnome Cleric/Thief Levels 1/2 STR 18 DEX 18 CON 16 INT 10 WIS 17 CHA 11 (13 with cloak) His name is "Munchkin" . . . . . ;) |
Like this is gonna be hard to guess....
Moiraine Sedai 8th Level Human Mage (female) STR: 14 (for carrying loot) DEX: 18 CON: 18 INT: 18 WIS: 10 CHA: 10 (bring on the 'friends' spell...) Sling + 1, Robe of the Good Arch-Magi (Chaotic Good), Quarterstaff +1, and that lovely lvl 1 spell doubler ring....<drools a little> Cheers, Moiraine Sedai |
Just as an aside, Moiraine... you don't need 18 constitution when playing a mage, thief, cleric, druid, or bard. A score of 16 will still give you maximum hit points, allowing you to put those two extra ability points elsewhere.

This powerful character made in the time when i was CrAzEd with the dragonlance novels:
Lord Ariakas Str: 19 Dex: 17(18 w/dex gauntlets) Con: 19 Int: 19 Wis: 13 Cha: 14(16 w/a certain cloak) Base HP: 96 Base Thaco: 13 Thaco with regular long sword: 7 2 ApR I made him a berserker in SoA and dualed him to mage at 11. by the end of SoA, he was truly awsome. In ToB, he was virtually unbeatable(Demogorgon fell to his knees weeping for mercy! Bwahahahahahaaa!). Unbeliavable starting stats, 95! |
I may as well tell you now that there is a charisma bug in SoA/ToB if you can be bothered to exploit it.
This allows you to wrap any charisma around to 25. I wont give you the details of HOW to do it, you can have more fun finding that one out for yourself. This means that: (5*18) + 3 (Charisma stat) = 93 points Are all you need for a perfect character. After going through Baldurs Gate, you should have: STR 19 CON 19 DEX 19 WIS 21 INT 19 CHA 4 Well, depending upon your race. Like I said, CHA will wrap around to 25 if you do things a certain way... giving you an INCREDIBLY powerful character. Anyway, this was just a mild introduction to powergaming. Prizes for guessing the best class to start as :D |

However, there is a rather attractive mod available in Shadows of Ahm that allows you to choose a kit for a fighter called... anti-paladin. Needless to say, you must be evil :D If you want to play a VERY powerful (overpowered) character, creating a evil fighter in Baldurs Gate is probably the way to go - by being evil you can roleplay some rather nice choices that will let you attain godlike powers. The most powerful individial all round character is probably a high level fighter/mage or and fighter/thief dual class. I think that the Kensai, anti-paladin or the wizard slayer kits are probably the best to play with if you intend to powergame effectively... then just dual class at a high level. |
Dwarf fighter
S 18/00 rolled this straight up on 3rd attempt I 8 W 10 D 17 C 19 Ch10 These were his starting stats, gauntlets of dexterity followed, there was no real advantage to bumping his Con to 20 so I used the manual on Ajantis. He is also max specialized on battle axe, along with bracers of weapon skill and the +2 battle axe he is something like +9 to hit +14 damage with the axe. Along the 19 Con he is one awesome tank. With boots of speed I haven't even bothered with a missile weapon. |
Actually, Killerdwarf, I think your char regenerates health at 20 CON I could be wrong though, as I never played a character with such a score.

And you get +1 to your hit points for each level you got

Gnome Chaotic good fighter/mage, i soloed him through once. At the end his stats were:
Strength: 19 Dexterity: 19 Constitution: 19 Wisdom: 8 Intelligence: 19 Charisma: 9 He was an unstoppable tank! |
Current BG1 paladin, taking to BG2:
Level: 8 Race: Human Class: Paladin STR: 18/00 -- That popped up after couple of rolls, I was pleased CON: 18 DEX: 18 INT: 15 WIS: 16 -- Was 15, got one WIS +1 book so far in the game, Durlag's tower I think CHA: 18 HP: Eh, forgot. 82 I think... Large Swords: ** Axe: ** Blunt Weapons: ** Basically, when I roll, I try to make sure that the char has at least enough points in each area to get the bonuses still, i.e. STR 16 at least and so on. When I have such template, I save it and continue to roll, adding/substracting as needed. It may take time, but it's quite possible to roll pretty good stats with some patience. With the books in BG1 and other means in BG2, this char will have handy stats overall. Sucks that I have 161'000 XP already (have ToTSC too), so I can't even reach the bloody level 9 to get them spells... Anyone can suggest any GOOD XP cap remover? |
For all you paladin players out there, please give us the exact time you took to roll those scores of 93+ total ability points. After 20 re-rolls, my paladin had 18/14/17/9/13/17 in stats.!!!
|
Oh heck, I don't know.. I have had rolls in the past for 30+ and even 1+ hour rolls and still sucks. Then I have had cases where I hit "Reroll" once and blam! I have very good stats on the screen, all I need is to adjust this and that a bit and done. Best roll I EVER had was 18/00, 18, 18, 17, 18 18 - but I forgot whether it was in BG1 or BG2. Be assured, I had to pick up my jaw from the floor...
But generally, I roll until I see some good base stats, i.e. the number needed to still get the bonuses. You can see that when you read the stat descriptions. Then I store that template and keep rerolling, at times recalling it and rerolling again. When I get better, I store it again. And, fiddling with buttons like this, some nicer numbers eventually start to pop out. Sometimes soon, sometimes much later - but they will come |
my 96 points total roll for my paladin was done in app. 15 minutes.
I reroll immediately if I got a number with only 1 ciffer (ie. 3 to 9). I make a fast check to see if the average value is under 15 (I count the plusses and minusses above and below 15) as soon as it is clear that the average is below (or close to) 15 I reroll. Otherwise I calculate the exact value and keep the roll if it is the best roll. Insane |
