Well, my birthday is the fifth of August, and I want to get a new game. Should I buy PS:T? I've heard great things about it, and as I prefer dialogue to action, PS:T should suit me just fine. That, and I love games where the main character can't die (Myst was great).

PS:T is one of the best RPGs of all time. Pity it did so poorly in terms of sales, I would really like a sequel or even an expansion to it. Well worth getting.

why dont you wait a little and get black isle's upcoming release.... Lionheart.... looks good? or even better wait a lot longer and be rewarded with Bioware corp's / Lucas Art's Star Wars rpg.... Knights of the old republic?

Because I'm not a big fan of Star Wars, and PS:T is such a good game...I love interaction :D

Lionheart's combat takes no skill or strategy.

i heard ther's lots of interaction in the upcoming star wars release... it has bioware's pre-defined dialogue system too like BG2 ^^)

I saw PS:T at best buy recently for 10 dollars!!! I also got BG1, IWD1 with both their expansions, for 15 each from best buy.

Xen, PS:T is Planescape:Torment. A search for it on the misc games forum should let you know just how good this game is. In its way, its a BG2 beater.

If you live in the LA area, the best buy on the PCH, near Lomita, has a ton of older and hard to find pc games, especially rpgs, for 10-20$. I've gotten all the BGs and IWDs, PS:T, A Wizardry box set, and a box set with the better Might and Magics, again, all for ten or so dollars each. I don't know if other stores have them, I just notice this particular place has a lot of old inventory they desperately want to get rid of.

I have D2. D2 is a horrible, horrible game with the large majority of the community composed of <font color="#FFFFFF">~insert rant~</font>, shop bots, and people obsessed with trading. I'll pass, thank you very much.

Diablo? I bought that in the same week that I sold it. Completed too easily, barely any interaction with NPCs, the Street Fighter of the RPG world. Hack, slash, buy, rest. Hack, slash, buy, rest. Hack, slash, buy, rest.
Planescape on the other hand, is utter class. It should be made on gold discs, and played only by the Pope.

PS:T is a good choice for an RPG. Riven is the decent sequel to Myst, and I've found it for less than 10 bucks in stores. Vampire: the Masquerade and Dracula: Resurrection fall in between BG and D2.

If you need a NWN-style fix, there's always Dungeon Keeper for people who like building dungeons. ;)

And there's always Frisbee.

diablo ii is alright
but it suffers from a lack of classes.

diablo is an AWESOME multiplayer game... no need for character interaction or whatnot... u get character interaction from the other 7 players in the game HAHA!i might be mistaken but the level of action in the game beats any black isle game (but i agree with others its one really bad single-player rpg)

Diablo is a mere powergaming game. The action is so straightforward, while in roleplay games like BG there is tactics involved, especially so with mods like weimer's.

even in multiplayer it kinda sux, i mean u dont actually haveto do anything, you can just wait until the other players kill bosses etc then rob the dead body even though u didnt d anythin and you've still completed that part...a bit strange, they could of worked on that a bit!

Planescape: Torment is an excellent game if you like NPC interaction. You learn much of the plot through interactions with others, so it is very dialog driven. You can play it more hack and slash, but you miss a lot of the plot. It is also singleplayer only (no multiplayer), though you can have the standard 6 party members. Less NPCs available, but all of them are fleshed out thoroughly. Great (award winning) story.

I gave up on Diablo. The epitome of hack and slash, so if you like that sort of thing, then great game for you. It reminds me of a much more advanced version of that game Rogue from the 80s (your character is an @ symbol, and all of the monsters are just letters, like T for troll. Your objective was to fight your way to the bottom of the dungeon, get the item, then fight back up. Very primitive, but still fun in a hack and slash sense). I know I just dated myself by throwing that one out there! I have Icewind Dale; it was given as a gift and I have never played it. I love interaction with the NPCs too much to go back to that.

Honestly, the Diablo series is horrible. I tried to play it again...I really tried...but nothing, save a major improvement via the 1.1 patch (unlikely) will make me consider trying again. I don't know who to give my uber items to, though :-D
