I've actually got around to starting BG. I have just reached Nashkel Mines.

For some reason I cannot scribe the Armor Spell to my Mage (Dynaheir)

Also, any recommendation on where to put the extra weapon proficency point in with the Ranger (Kivan)

Dynaheir is a specialist mage invoker. Specialist mages get one extra spell per level but cannot learn spells of opposition school. For invokers opposition school is conjuration, and armor is a conjuration spell.

For Kivan you could give a proficiency in a one handed weapon. A blunt weapon or a sword.

My suggestion for Kivan is either Blunt or Large Sword. There are a lot of good large swords in the game, and one good staff (if you use TotSC).
