How does this table work?

What if I have say 8 levels but only 7 ranks in perform, what will his song be?

Also doesn't it advance beyond level 30?

Also can bard do something else while he is singing?

Not sure about the ranks but in NWN1 a bard could sing and then do something else. It's an instant cast effect that buffs ya. Think it works the same in 2, but havent tried one yet so dont know for certain.

I can only speak from playing with a bard as my henchman and it would appear that they can sing and fight etc,or so it appears to me, please someone correct me if I am wrong.As to your other queries,sorry,I do not know. Hope that is of some help.

IIRC in NWN 1, one of the tooltips (either bard song or perform) will explain the ranks and advancement in how Perform affects your song.

The Bard's song level depends on then number of Bard levels she/he has (not just character levels) and her/his adjusted ranks in the Perform skill. The Perform skill can be modified by: ranks taken at level up time, items (Gloves of the Minstrel, etc.), feats like (Epic) Skill Focus- Perform, and modified Charisma bonuses.

You need both the Bard levels and the Perform ranks to get the best bard song. An 8th level bard with only 7 ranks in Perform can only do a second level bard song. A level one Bard with Epic Gloves of the Minstrel (+30 Perform) still can only do a level one bard song.

The Bard song does not advance beyond level 30 but you will find getting your Perform ranks to 100 is enough of a challenge.

Once the song has started, the bard can do other actions.

Hey xander, how is Sharwyn for a henchman? I mean how smart she is? Does she know when to sing cast spell or attack. Or is she likely to cast all the best spells on the first wee little goblin you meet?

She seems to die quite easily(but this is my first time playing), and seems to need a bit of prompting to attack,but can dish out a bit of damage whenin melee. Also spells appear quite limited(improved invisibilty,scare,sonic blast appear to be her main repertoire),and she can take a while to cast them,for instance, the enemy will be lying dead on the floor and then she casts her first spell.It appears that she will generally start to sing when enemy is sighted. On the whole she appears OK as a henchman. But the whole game is a learning curve for me so I might not be doing things right, yeah, I know I SHOULD read the manual.
