I thought the planar sphere was the mage stronghold. Yet when I stay there I get the "sleeping in the dungeon" movie. I did Edwin's task and killed Rayic Gethra before I did the planar sphere quest. If I stay in his house I get the "good sleep in an inn" movie and healings. The Cowled Wizards think the sphere is my stronghold. Does this mean I have two bases?

stronghold is different from a cabin.

Each class only get's one stronghold. As for you, it is the Planar Sphere.
But, in Athkatla, you'll run into houses where once the owner get's killed, you can take the house and use it as a sort of a base. The Guarded Compound, to mention one.
But, they do not act like a stronghold, cause strongholds includes sub-quests, etc, while these houses only has the one 'fight' to win it, and that's it. ;)
It's still a great place to store items, though.

I think Sir Exxon is right. I am getting the subquests in the planar sphere just as I did from the fighter stronghold. The question remains; why do I only get a "good night's sleep" in my base but not my stronghold? When I had the fighter stronghold THAT is where I got the health benefits from a good sleep.
