i have found some good drow armor and weapons should i keep them or sell them, since drow equipment is "destroyed" in the sun light, will they be of any use to me outside the caverns?

Sell them. They will be destroyed once you leave the Underdark. Only Drow Items made of Adamantite will be destroyed. Stuff such as the Gorgon's Plate will survive.

If you have Jaheira in you party (or anyone else who goes back to Atkatala)Give her your drow equipment while you are still in the Underdark, than kick her off the party. She will return to the Harper building (If you have not done the harper quests)and when you join with her again the Drow equipment will be yours, even in the day! the equipment is only set to melt in the Exit from the Underdark area, so if you don't take it there, it wont melt!

Furthermore, the game checks if you have items to destroy every few seconds. That means you can drop them, save, then pick them up and run several meters. Then drop again and all from the beggining. You will eventually reach end of the map and exit the area with items.
If you have party members, you can arrange them in long line, then pass the items to the end of the map that way.

UGHH! That sounds like an extemly boring thing to do! I'd just let the Armor melt!

This does work but is classed as cheating and upsets the balance of the game ;) . The only reason why they gave you better armour/weapons from the drows is because it was feared that many of the foes in the underdark would be too difficult for non experienced players and so thought they would need all the help they could get.

Drow armour is overrated anyway.

While there are several ways to keep drow equipment after leaving the Underdark they all stem from game flaws. If you want to really live the game, then it wouldn't be real to use equipment that can't exist in sunlight. If you want to "cheat" then you can get much better equipment.

Drop all the armor. Drop the weapons, two. It's much more satisfactory to break one's enemies apart with your hands. :)
