My problem is I'm soloing, and they corner me by coming in from all sides. I can't escape the imprisonment. Which, if you are soloing, is quite finite.

Oh yea, I'm doing the drow quest for the beholder eye. I found something down there, don't want to spoil here, so.....

Maybe I should just take the new amulet and run and go do the Mind Flayers?

Pook.

what amulet?

daan 10-21-2002 07:14 AM

I suppose he means the Green stone-amulet. You find one in the Underdark and it protects against all psionics.
As for the beholders, what are you soloing ?
Shield of balduran could help a little, summons for the imprisonment,..
if you're a mage / half-mage you could use spell immunity.. etc. etc.
If you could give us your solo-class/kit, we'd be able to help you better

Heh.. On an unbaldurdashed game, the amulet could be taken from a killed Mordenkainen's sword... A great toy ;)

As for beholders... What about the cloak of cheese? The Cloak Of Mirroring ;) The beasts finally get themselves killed/petrified if you just enter their LoS ;)

Another tactics: try to send in a skeleton warrior or two (if mage ;) ) They helped my sorc much with the beholders ;)

Its a glitch that you can get that in the first place. Its also glitched in that its undroppable. Or so I hear, ive never actualy gotten a mordenkanine's sword killed.

There's a legit way of getting one too ... not sure where in Underdark, but i definetly got it .. and I never used Mordekainen's sword . .didnt have that spell yet.

In a fully unpatched game Mordy's swords weared the Greenstone amulets. Try to sick a sword on a Iron or Adamantine golem to make it drop it ;)

Baldurdash fixpack changed the amulet to an undroppable thingie, which actually makes the swords immune to psionics; greenstone amulets have to be activated to protect from psionics, and poor stupid swords never cared to do so ;)

So, you still can get an amulet if you get a fully unpatched game and send your Mordy's sword to a sure death. Poison-using mages are one example. Iron golem's Gas cloud is an another ;)

Myself I found the amulet thingie out in Planar Sphere, when tried to kill a golem with those swords...

I thought the Cloak of Mirroring just absorbed spells, not reflected them...?

Anyway, ways to avoid imprisonment:

1) For spellcasters: Spell Immunity: Abjuration

2) For berserkers and barbarians: Berserk/Enrage mode (works for Minsc, too).

3) For anyone: Protection from Magic scroll (you can get two of them at the Adventurer's mart)

There may be other ways, but I can't think of them right now.

Only if you have ToB installed. Installing ToB nerfs the power of the Cloak of Mirroring so that it only absorbs and not reflect back the spells.

Morgeruat 10-21-2002 10:30 AM

the cloak of mirroring without ToB reflects any harmful spell back on the caster, if you go into the override folder and delete it (clck26.itm) it will return to the bg2 SoA version that has the better visual effect, and reflects harmful things, such as spells/beholder rays/fast food/etc...

IIRC Imprisonment does not look at magic resistance, so potions of magic blocking, magic resistnace, etc will not work as well as scrolls that do the same thing
