The forest of Tethir has a quest involving Coran and Safana two of the NPC's from Baldur's Gate, that area is also used later so you can acsess the elven city. The other two areas are just to provide some monsters etc to fight for exp.

There's a black dragon in the elven city just follow the storyline as you must meet it there. It isn't that tough a fight at this stage of the game you shouldn't have too many problems it's probably the games easiest dragon.

Throrgrim: If I remember correctly you get the blade from Saemon don't you? To get the other piece just make sure you keep the blade in your inventory and the other piece will find you trust me.
