you do play in the same party. the host-player can give a character to someone, for example you have a party of six. you can then give 3(or more/less if you want to) to your friend(s) so that everyone have about the same amount of players. if you want to play multiplayer, i recommend getting the program, Gamespy. Gamespy has directions in how to host a mulriplayer game and stuff. i believe gamespy arcade comes with baldurs gate 2. correct me if im wrong.

Gamespy, pfeh! Just set up a TCP/IP connection between your computer and your friend's computer. Whoever is hosting, the other person connecting in will need to know your IP addy so he can connect (which you can find by going to DOS and typing IPCONFIG at the prompt). Tell him to connect via TCP/IP connection in the Multiplayer screen, type in the IP address, and you should be connected.

P.S. Whoever is hosting, their character is the "Bhaalspawn" character.

Also, your friend can use his/her own characters in the game; you don't have to generate them for him/her unless that's they way they want it.

If you use custom portraits or sound files, both machines will need to have those files in the appropriate folders, so you'll need to trade them over e-mail or a messaging service.

Also, both games must be configured EXACTLY the same way. That means, the same version of the game (same patches, same mods if you're using them, etc.) and I think the frame rate must be the same between the two games (30 is default; look in the Configuration utility). Also, the difficulty level (Normal, Core Rules, Insane) must be the same among all games to be able to connect.

Cheers,
-Saz

how does pausing work in mutli?
also u say the host is the bhallspawn but can hosts change from game to game or is there always one set host
and can u go through the whole story in mutli and how does saving ur game work

Avoid Gamespy like the plague, is my humble advicve. It's quicker and easier to do it direct, like Saz said.

Oh, and set a password if you don't want annoying idiots trying to get in and ruin your game.

Everything is pretty much same as in Single Player game, except the fact that you don't control all six characters, some of them are controlled by other players.
So, only one character gets stronghold, romances, Bhaalspawn abilities, etc.
