i've played this game through twice now (not enough, i know)...and twice i've gone through the umar hills quest, getting all the pieces of the king's helm and carry them around for most of the rest of the game, finally dumping them when i hit the mind flayers. is there a point to these items? can this helmet be assembled, or is it wortless junk. (cromwell seems to think they're not worthwhile to keep)

The king's helm? I never heard of it...are you sure you're not talking about the helm in Windspear Hills' Dungeon?

If you get all the pieces, the pieces will become a Helmet which shows you the guardian to the Tomb of King Strohm. This guardian can also be seen with Detect Invisibilty, True Sight, etc. ;)
So if you aren't interested in this Tomb, yes, the pieces are worthless. </font>

(and yes, i did not mean to say umar hills, i meant Firkaag's quest)

I also had some similar problem, the first time I fought my way up to the Tomb. I just couldn't understand where the fire came from... Until Keldorn eventually figured it out. </font>

The burial mask is a helmet that anybody can wear. Being a helmet, it blocks critical hits Meaning Bards can wear meaningful headgear into battle to protect their fragile skulls.

Plus, it looks a lot like a Japanese war mask.

Yoshi gets a funny look with it...

Even monks can wear it, which leads to some fantastic animation problems. Watch the helmet fly off your monk's head when he does a jumping kick, only to drop directly onto his head with stunning accuracy and precision when he lands ;)
