What can i use to increase intelligence.
Aeris only has 16 and i can not get her to learn any more spells.

Thanx

For learning spells there's an east and relatively inexpensive way of increasing you intelligence:

Potions of Genius. Sold nearly everywhere these potions provide a rather hefty temporary intelligence increase. It should easily boost all wizard/bard character's intelligence to 18+

It is right that intelligence below 18 poses a limit on spells you can have in your spell book. But this limit is only checked for in the actual situation of learning the spell. The spells will not erase themselves when you intelligence drops back to normal again.

So, just collect all the spell scrolls you want to copy. Swig a Potion of Genius and then sit in a corner and write!

yup, i used to carry a bunch of potions of genius around for just that reason. (there's another potion that raises int, and they can be used together....)

More permament ways of boosting intelligence follow:

  • Give in to the taint when fighting Wraith Sarevok (PC only) - assumes mage/sorcerer</font>
  • Use the Machine of Lum the Mad, 3rd level Watchers Keep (ToB only)</font>
  • Use the deck of many things, and hope for the "star" card (assumes mage/sorcerer)</font>

That'll be the potions of Mind Focusing. These rock (INT and DEX are boosted by 3 for 12 hours!!!). These are relatively rare compared to the Genius potions however.....

and about twice the price too

Indemaijinj 01-16-2003 07:37 AM

Might come in handy when fighting Illithids.

You can use both the increased hardiness from the INT and the increased armor class from the DEX.

But when you are just sitting around Dex hardly matters. You don't usually write spells into your spellbook during or right before combat.

Are potions of MF able to be produced by THeives with the Alchemy HLA?

Also, I consider the use of potions to temporarily raise INT in this way to be cheating (whether it be against the rules or not). I think that the limit should be re-applied once the INT increase wears off. just MHO, but i'd like to know if anyone else shares that view.

Thieves cannot produce them.

I see where you're coming from, but IMO I think it's a legitemate (i.e. not cheating) way of scribing spells. Once scribed, there's no reason why spells should start to disappear (and which ones would go first?). If this system was implemented, a mind flayer would cause a mage a great deal of harm, effectively wiping their spell book clean LOL!

Neither Potion is rare, they're actually some of the most plentiful Potions in the game. Go to a Temple, ANY Temple. Buy yourself 13 Potions of Genius & 13 Potions of Mind Focusing. And considering that all of the NPC Mages in the game need only 2 Potions of Genius to reach 24 INT (or even higher) that's a LOT of scribing that you can do.
