• You need to be a thief (any kit other than a swashbuckler) or a ranger (stalker only)</font>
 • You need to be invisible (either hidden in the shadows or invisible by magical means)</font>
 • You need to be behind them (unless you have Throne of Bhaal installed and have access to the high level ability assasination)</font>
 • You need to be using a melee weapon that only a single class thief can use (long/short swords, daggers, quarterstaves, clubs)</font>

Thx a lot

This is, beside the staff/club, as I remembered it.

Though, during fights my stealth skill never works...always fails :(

Where is the trick ?

you can't go into stealth if someone is looking right at you.
all hostile creatures must be unable to see you or you will fail your stealth test every time. The trick is, use corners, doorways etc. run around a corner, hide and come back once you're invisible

just btb I think beast master also can have a very low backstab

You must also be unable to see all hostile creatures (even if they can't see you). The stealth will always fail if an enemy is within the fog of war.

This would be sweet, but unfortuately only the stalker is the ranger with a backstabbing ability .

Remember that any form of invisibility will do - you don't actually have to go stealth. Note that this makes Imp. Invis or the Staff of the Magi really powerful (you can't actually backstab with SotM, but trying alternating that and Celestial Fury for Mage-Killing chunky goodness)

Mislead is much better than Assassination - get invisible and backstab as much as you want ;) .
