Do all players in a multiplayer game have to have the Tactics mod installed, or is it only the host?

I would like to play my single player with tactics, and a multiplayer with my friend with tactics, yet my wife would rather be in a game without it. In our current multiplayer game, she is host. She does not have the mod. Will games she hosts be normal, and a game I host be butched? Or will our games be incompatible, and I have to uninstall Tactics to be in her game?

Only host IIRC

You can't take me on the word here, as I never have played with the Tactics Mod, but I think all players need the game. This is because Tactics is a large mod, and it probably does several changes to many of the game files, with the Dialog.tlk being one. And I'm quite sure that all players must have the same files installed.

Everyone must have an *identical* copy of BG2. Same patches, expansions, tweaks, mods, bugfixes, fixpacks, everything.

The only thing that can be different are aesthetic *only* tweaks - things like the improved robes of vecna that only *look* different, but behave exactly the same.

Or in other words, you must either both or neither have tactics installed. And I would recommend getting baldurdash and the official patches installed before starting. Multiplayer games are less stable that single player to begin with.

Also, make sure that you have the same version of every patch or mod.

Thanks for the replies. I was kind of hoping I would not have uninstall/reinstall the tactics mod, depending on whether the wife is playing or not. But that certainly makes sense.

I had not thought too much about it, but I suppose it also means that we have to have the exact same options selected in the Ease-of-Use mod, too, don't we? If I have multi-stronghold not installed, and she does, it will probably crash, huh?

Ahhmmm... Perhaps, perhaps not. It could crash when the game wanted to run the script. But if you're the protagonist, it matters little if she has Multiple Strongholds or Improved Bhaalspawn Ablities, IMO.
Just to make sure everything will work, I would reinstall the game from scratch. Yes, it is radical, but it could save you a lot of grief.

</font>
Just make sure you back-up your saved games.

Backing up of saved games is not a good idea if you're going to install a different set of mods. And you could likely end with that.

Yeah, ran into that problem this morning. Apparently it tried to run a script in the Copper Coronet from a save game on my machine from before I had found the tactics mod. Anyway, every time I walk near the bar, the game crashes, and Ctrl-Alt-Del shows BGII is not responding.

But if I join a savegame from my wife's machine, which still does not have the tactics mod, it seems to still work fine on my machine, which has the full tactics, and Temple Ruins has weenie shadows. So it looks to me like the host mods determine the game settings.
