So I finally decided to start a solo carreer through (at least) Baldur's Gate II : Shadows of Amn. Now my question for you is: what kind of protagonist should I use for the purpose. Obviously I am *not* that experienced with playing solo, but I have beaten the game with a thief and a barbarian so that may be a good starter for you guys who want to give me some info. Thanks!

Well Link, to answer your question, I need to know what you consider yourself to be an expert in?

Plain whacking. Nothing else. And maybe running into everything like a fool!

I'd suggest a Barbarian.....powerful warrior with great HP and defensive bonuses....

Barbarian.. I would love to try it, but maybe because I've done it already it gives less the thrill that I'm looking for. Maybe I should try spellcasters so I can learn how that works as well?

True, you wouldn't be learning anything new, but you're already acustomed to how the character works from your duo game. Spell casting is great to learn. Try a Sorcerer, and use the Spell Reference (check out the bottom of Alson's sig) to determine what spells you should use.

Since you like whacking things and have mentioned spell casting, have you considered using a fighter/mage, a Blade or even a Paladin?

A multiclassed character is generally recommended for your first solo so you have a wide range of skills.

I'll consider trying a Fighter/Mage. Thanks for the advice Jim

Trying to solo with a Sorcerer without mastering the arts of arcane magic is like racing in NASCAR after getting your driver's license. ;) A Fighter/Mage should prove interesting, and help you learn a bit more about magic.

One thing about soloing, you really start to appreciate some spells and tactics. Have fun!
