Alright, i thought of a new idea for a cool weapon. i wrote it all down, as i tend to forget easily, but ill have to find the paper thru my notebook. ill give you brief summary of it now, tell me what you think.

*REMEMBER, I ALLREADY HAVE IT ALL PLANNED OUT, JUST NOT RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME AT THE TIME. THIS IS JUST A PREVIEW, I JUST WANT THOUGHT AND IDEAS ON IT. THANK YOU AND WATCH YOUR STEP*

------------------------
Its a longsword +2, called Radiance of the Moon or Blade of the Moon (too bad Moonblade is allready taken )

On the base of the blade by the hilt are 3 moon symbols, a waxing moon, a full moon, then a waning moon. each night, depending on the amount of the moon visible, one of the symbols lights up. each symbol gives it differnt powers.

for the waxing moon, you recieve a set of 2 or 3 (two times a day) buff spells, as the moon is growing power.

for the full moon, it becomes a +3 (if its possible to create that) and reaches its full power, giving protection from all mind affecting spells, etc.

for the waning moon, the moon is 'losing' power, so it grants the wielder de-buff skills (ex. lower resistance), each 2 times a day.

the blade is of Elven heritage, and is made from an extremely light but durable material, requiring very little strength, even so mages can use it.

At the beginning of each night, the moon chooses its symbol. the effects of the rune that activates last untill the next night begins. The computer will roll 1d4 to determine the what effects acivate.
a roll of:
 • 1-waxing
 • 2-full
 • 3-waning
 • 4-new (for a new moon, none of it is visible so it stays the same untill the next night)
The blade (no matter what phase) allways carrys 1 charge per day of improved haste.
---------------------------

That is a basic overview of the weapon. questions? comment? opinions? changes? leave them here, or just post to tell me what you think ;)

I think its cool. You should think of a companion weapon for it too, so they compliment each others powers. of course I dont know how that would go but oh well.

Annatar 04-20-2003 03:42 PM

Scripting and a lot of work will be needed to create such a blade (I can tell you this, I can't make it), so ask around in TeamBG if they can/will create such a blade for you, the concept is great but... it would be alot easier if the blade grows in strength with its wielder (level wise)... like the evolving blade in TDD.

Rapida: Thanks! I think ill try to get this one done first, then ill work on a companion version (blade of the sun)

Annatar: Yes, this would take a lot of work. i was thinking if someone big made it (weidu), they could put it in a mod or something. maybe have a dungeon or something with a powerful creature guarding it. as you walk close to where the weapon is you see a animation or a dialog with a group of elfs opposing the gaurdian who stole it. the elfs could talk about how they want their ancient weapon back, as the monster stole it, then the monster proceeds to blow them all up ( :D ), then you come in and fight for it.

Not a terribly hard fight, but not a cake-walk either.

As Annatar said, this is gonna be really hard to make. Not even sure if it can be done, atleast not parts of it.
Things I'm not sure about will work:
- Full moon. There is no such thing in BG2, and if one were to create that just for a weapon, or even just make the weapon stronger one night each 30th day, you'd have to change a whole lot of files. I am quite sure that this can not be done at all.
- Stronger every night. This would also mean altering quite many files. As there are in-game days and nights, it isn't a big change at all when considering differences and codes. I am quite sure that if this is to be done, you'll have to edit area codes as well.

But then again, this is just an amateur talking. I have made items before, but I am by no account experienced in modding and editing, so it is a possibility that everything I just said is nothing but a bunch of bullsh*t.

Oh, and if I didn't compliment you already, it really would be a great item! Nice thinking, Xero.

Thanks Sir Exxon!

I think you misunderstood alittle though. there doesnt necessarily need to be a full moon, you can roleplay like there is. you wouldnt need to change anything to the actual game, just role play there is a full moon on the night(s) when you roll a 2.

For the stonger each night, thats not what i ment. I was saying during the waxing moon, the moon "grows" as it builds up to a full moon, and since the moon is "growing", the wielder gets special buff spells (such as haste, or bless, Strength, something like that) to make your characters "grow" as the moon does.

understand better? ;)

See, this is why you shouldn't reply to threads when it's past midnight, and you haven't gotten a good sleep in days.
Ah well, even though I misread it, I still think it's gonna be pretty hard to make. Good luck on finding somebody to do it for ya. ;)

Annatar 04-20-2003 06:28 PM

Because we won't :D

Xero279 04-20-2003 06:48 PM
