Just killed improved Kangaxx. What is the rat for he gates when he transforms into demilich?

I have heard that it will serve as a recipient for his soul. Fine and good, but is it any useful killing it?

I did kill the rat after defeating Kangaxx. It did only stay there, and took my damage. With a little patiance and FoA it went down, but no congratutalation message, no experience points, nothing for this?

PS: I (stalker/creric) used the PfM scroll, but actually didn't really need it. Kangaxx went angry because he couldn't see me (I was hidden in the north corner) and teleported me to him - just in front of his nose. Bad idea! Mace of disruption = dead demilich. I was lucky and wouldn't have needed PfM.

So there may be a way to do it without those (cheesy) scrolls.

ive heard rumors that if you kill the rat(s?) kangaxx gets weaker. and you dont actually need those cheesy scrolls at all when beating kangaxx. hes not that hard, if you know how the spells work and what spells affect liches(demi liches) as well as what weapons damage them. if you know those, no enemy is all that challenging(tactics and insane difficulty bring quite a bit of challenge to the game, though)

Its a hassle to kill the rat, I have tried it with no succses yet, doing a lot of damage is the key probably (and a lot of spare time)

While I could be mis-remembering this, the Rat doesn't actually have anything to do with Imp Kang per se. It is there so that he can target area-of-effect spells at players with bouncy effects or spell immunities. The rat is programmed to stand next to you and he casts the spell at the rat. This simulates the ability that you have as a player to cast a spell like cloudkill on "empty ground", a power that scripted enemies do not generally have.

so basically, it would alter the difficulty towards easier, though VERY minorly. now that you put it like that mr. weimer, it makes perfect sense. no big suprise that you clear this up ;) .

Yes, now it makes sense to me. Thanks Weimer.

I killed the rat with the FoA. Didn't take that long. Probly because the slwoing effect also affects regeneration (not sure if the rat regenerates).
