Hey guys (and girls), I haven't posted in a while but...here I am. I've owned BG2 (w/out ToB) for about two years and in the last six months it has developed a recurring bug. Every once in a while it decides to think that it isn't actually installed (all the files and stuff are still there but it says "Install" instead of "Play"). So it gives me the install option and (very irritated) I click it, an it goes ahead and UNinstalls the WHOLE GAME. Then I have to reinstall and THEN I can resume my game, with my character, right where I left off. Now until recently I was willing to put up with this but the last time I reinstalled it, IT DIDN'T WORK AT ALL. So now, no matter how many times I uninstall and REinstall it only gives me the "Install" option. Has anyone ever encountered this bug? Has anyone ever resolved it? I'd appreciate any help because I've been looking forward to summer for a chance to kick some Irenicus ass for the better part of the school year!

Hm.. Very peculiar problem. My guess would be that the installer does not, or is not allowed to, write the correct data to registry or something overrides it right away. Which Windows do you have?

Oh, have you tried to start the game straight from BGMain.exe? That may work because it launches the game directly and doesn't show the 'start-up screen'.

My OS is Windows 98. Hmmmm...I haven't tried BGMain.exe, where is that? Sounds like it might work!

BGMain.exe is in the directory where you have installed BG2. I doesn't have a 'proper' icon but just double click it and it will launch. [img]smile.gif[/img]

One of the bugs in BG][ meant registry checkers/editors such as Norton Windoctor would delete any BG][ registry entries - this meant when you started BG][ there was no option to PLAY, only INSTALL.

This was fixed in the patch.

Do you use a Windows utility like Norton system works?
I've had the same problem after running windoc, a ultility that finds and fixes
errors on your HD.
