I've never done a solo and was wondering the best way to do it.

Pyrenk 08-25-2003 07:46 PM

Since this is your first solo, try a Ranger/Cleric or a Kensai/Mage (a Fighter/Mage would work too). If you understand the spell system, however, use a Sorcerer. You can use Dundee's spell recommendations if you don't know which spells to pick ;)

ADD-Oh, I forgot...welcome to the forums!

Take an Elf, go as fighter, after a few levels of real game go to mage. Go for strenght because you'll do all the carrying.

P.S.
Wellcome to the Ironworks.

What about a paladin, besides the fact that I think they're the coolest characters in the game, they are fighters and are able to learn priest spells.

<font color=cadetblue>Solo Paladins are easy, one of my first solos was a cavalier and it was a really fun game. Just don't take Firkraag on too early and you'll be fine.

Edit: Uh...Emerald Dragon at 906 posts?!?! Must go to GenCon to see if new avatars are up...</font>

Fighter/mage/thief multiclass will give you all of the skills you need.

True_Moose 08-25-2003 08:41 PM

I agree with Dace, fighter/mage/thief is wicked, I personally think fighter/thief is easier though. Cavaliers are also sweet.

I would say that you shouldn't take a dual-class as your first solo, as you'll spend a bit of time at lower levels, upping the difficulty. Multiclasses keep developing, and when soloing, experience points aren't an issue.

Sorcerer or F/M.
ADD] I see this will be your first solo. Then i do not recommend to play a Sorcerer. F/M is good. Very good.

i can't believe no-one has said F/M/T yet

<ahem>

Fighter/Mage/Thief

you can backstab and set traps
you can hide
you get more than one attack per round!
you get mage buffs and protections
you can summon
you can earn experience from thieving and scribing scrolls
you can earn experience from thieving scrolls and scribing them ;)
you can exploit Mislead

it depends a bit on whether you've got the SoA or the ToB XP cap though as 3 classes is a lot to share 3m between . . .

enjoy - soloing is fun and seductive

ADD: oops - someone did say F/M/T i see :( ah well - i'll leave the reasons there

With the right combination of spells, the sorcerer would be good. Make sure you have 'knock' spell to do the thieving work. If Irenicus can go solo sorcerer, why can't we?
