..it seems to me that it might not be worth the risk of the constitution loss. I would like to hear the board's input.

i've never cast it myself never having had a mage PC but woudln't the effect of the constitution loss on your actual constitution and class - e.g. a mage wiht 17 CON isn't going to miss a point - and that's just if the little fella dies isn't it?

they seem to come into their own with solo mages without a thief component allowing you to pick the odd lock and to pickpocket a very useful early game item (but don't tell me that doesn't take a few reloads at ~50% ;) )

i guess they could look pretty cool and there could be roleplaying reasons

stuff like that

Familiar + Backpack = What CON loss?

Xen 10-31-2003 04:51 AM

IMHO Mage doesn`t need CON. He has Stoneskins,Mirror Images... etc. for protection. CON is only for HP`s and CON is important for Fighters. So i don`t give any potato about it.

well I only use a familiar for more HP and he takes up one slot in my inventory

<span style="color: Lightblue">Do your stoneskins run out in battle? What about your Mirror Images and other Illusions (excluding clones)? More HP = more chance of surviving once these have gone... long enough, even, to run away and rebuff. A mage's protections are only temporary, and while HP alone isn't something to rely on, it can help as something to fall back on when all else fails.

Power Word:Kill, Power Word:Stun, Critical Hit, etc... ...

Wise are those who appreciate and understand the benefits of 16 CON for a Sorcerer or Mage.

A couple of the familiars have non-combat (or pre-combat) abilities that are worth taking them out of your inventory for once in a while. The Fairy Dragon (Chaotic Good) can cast Invis 10' radius, and the Ferret (Lawful Neutral) is a decent pickpocket.

Does anyone have a complete list of what familiars are found for each different type of sorc? (Good / Neutral / Evil)
