I'm out of the beginning dungeon and am starting to build a party around my male Sorcerer PC. I'd like to make sure all the bases are covered, but here's the kicker: because my first time through the game didn't include a romance (or, specifically, started one with Jaheira that broke), I'd like to have all three romanceable gals in the party: Jaheira, Aerie, and Viconia. Obviously, that makes things a bit magic-heavy, so I need a couple of tanks and a thief. How about:

Me (sorcerer)
Korgan (fighter)
Jan (thief/illusionist)
Jaheira (fighter/druid)
Aerie (cleric/mage)
Viconia (cleric)

Are Korgan and Jaheria as 1.5 fighers enough to support a party like this, considering how good Korgan is? If I had to, I'd consider dropping Jaheira for Valygar just to get some additional muscle up front and backstabbing behind, but that would ruin my romance square. Also, nobody in this party can carry a bow; should I consider swapping Yoshimo back in for Jan? (I'm really fond of Jan, and his equipment. But either way, Imoen will take this slot at some point.)

Any thoughts are appreciated, and any sorcerer strategies to support a party like this one will also be appreciated. :D

Korgan alone will be enough fighter power to sustain this party, trust me. :D Jan will make a nice thief at first, but I suggest replacing him with Imoen ASAP to make sure she gets enough experience.

Of course, bearing in mind that at some point, the various romances will be at odds with one another, and you'll have to choose one of the three to continue with, and only with very gentle manuvering can you keep all three in the party. And while this will not diminish their combat capacity, it will end a portion of the roleplaying reason you chose to include them for in the first place. cheers.

there might be a slight problem...

when i had aeirie(sp?) and Viconia there were frequent cat fights, with the "slight" difference in alignement. also korgan tends to get pissed of with aeirie aswell..., and you will soon i guarantee that, she is totally useless! the first time i had her she had over twice the number of my spells and i only used her magiv missiles, she has low hp and is generally useless...

and the only use of jaheira is for fire elementals and a vaguely strong cleric type- she gets on my nerves aswell, lmfao

true korgan puts up a wicked fight, if you can put valygar up there aswell, hyping him up with extra strenght "stuff" and the celestial katana (christ) then he will be a wicked fighter aswell

Mazzy instead of Korgan will reduce the level of conflict in the party to a more manageable level. Despite the fact that her proficiencies are primarily in Short Bow, she is actually fantastic as a front-line tank. Build her skills in melee weapons and styles and she'll do great. Minsc can serve on the front-line until you find Mazzy, and in fact you could go with him for the whole game also if you want.

Dundee Slaytern has a suggested party Sorcerer spell list that you might want to peruse for ideas:

Many thanks, all! Some great advice. ryaldin makes a good point that I hadn't considered; I may want to think about what kind of party I'm going to want after the romance has solidified, and make sure I don't leave anybody too far out in the cold (and without experience) if I think I'm going to want them to join later. My only reason for hanging onto my "evil" characters at this point is because I didn't play with them my first time through and I'm wondering what they're all about. So far, Korgan's a hoot.

Thanks again! :D

Korgan IS a hoot, and a fantastic fighter besides. But there are certain combinations of NPC's that will not work together in a party long-term, and Korgan would have added such a conflict to your party. Ask for spoilers if you want specifics... or you may be able to find out yourself by searching this forum for "NPC conflicts".

Why dont you have Minsc in there dude? Minsc in THE character in my opinion. Boo is too. Minsc and Boo are both formidable front line fighters!

Red Onion 12-15-2003 08:37 AM

drew_jarvie, I agree that Minsc is probably one of the best NPCs in the game, but I've played through with him already, and I'm up for a new experience. In fact, I've decided to hang onto my original party and roleplay it through as far as I can. At the moment, we have a reputation of 6 (Disliked) and I had to fight the instinct to reload when it dropped. Now Aerie is disappointed with the party and Korgan/Viconia are chortling. Roleplay roleplay roleplay!

Thanks again, all! :D
