I have several custom portraits, they are all the right size and I have them in a "Portraits" folder in my Baldurs Gate II folder. When I go to the custom portraits section on my records screen in the game, all it says is thumbs and none of my portraits. Any ideas, suggestions??????

1) Make sure they are .bmp files.
2) Make sure that the filename does not exceed 8 characters. e.g. Maxi4444.bmp is fine. Maximillian.bmp is invalid. |
Dundee, I don't think they need to be .bmp files. I think I had a .bit one before (might have been a .jpg, though) in BG1.

<span style="color: lightblue">They need to be uncompressed bitmaps - the game doesn't work with vector portraits, and doesn't have any decompression algorithms. *.bmp is fine, *.png can be alright, *.tif may work (but I don't think so), *.gif and *.jpg shouldn't work. Note that I'm assuming the conventional graphics naming, an image saved as a JPEG, but named as *.bmp, for example, probably won't work.
Also, the filenames may be up to 12 characters including any extentions they have - Maximillian is fine, Maximillian. is fine, but Maximillian.b will break. The general naming convention is 8.3, but some things use ?.4 (*.JPEG for example). |
Check out some of the portrait sites that are given in the FAQ thread at the top of the page. Some of them have detailed instructions for portrait making, like the site here (from Billy Yank's portrait site)
File names should be 8 characters followed by .bmp, with the last character in the name being "L" or "S" for large and small portraits respectively. [ 03-27-2004, 01:48 AM: Message edited by: Olorin ] |
