this would be my first topic (yay me!)

anywhoo, i started a solo a while back to see if i could cope. having beaten firkraag and the shadow dragon with lower resistance, greater malison and chromatic orb i was feeling quite pleased with myself. the only challenges i had left were kangaxx and the twisted rune. however, i've hit a small, yet important, snag. the shade lich keep pounding me before i even get a shot in. i can't use breach, and therefore my fighter HLAs are useless. Even with death ward, spell immunity and all my cleric buffs i can't get near the guy. i can't for the life of me remember any spell that removes combat protctions aside from breach. i have two warding whips memorised but thats about it,.

Dispel Magic is an alternative.

Consider... a certain Mace. When your Cleric level is 20+, consider Turn Undead.

Sunray is another way too. Including the Daystar version.

ADD] As a last resort, you can use Protection from Undead scrolls.

With your M and C part you can protect from everything that lich throws at you.
Try this: Stoneskin, Spirit Armor, Death Ward, Chaotic Commands, Mirror Image, Prot. from Fire, Prot. from Lighting, Spell Immunity: Abjuration.

If he throws a Spellstrike your SI:Abj will be dispelled so recast it. (You DO HAVE Amulet of Power and Robe of Vecna, right?)

Then just stand there and smile. ;)

When lich is out of spells go mano-a-mano. :D

Magic Users are somewhat easily defeated with protecting yourself and waiting for their spells to run out. The key is patience.

I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned the ever-cheesy Vhalior Helm and Protection from Magic scrolls. Simple, yet effective. Another thing to try would be (I don't know if it works with that Lich or not though) is to throw Azuredge at the Lich as soon as possible, before PfMW comes up to get an easy kill.

due to the cleric part i cannot use daystar or azuredge.

i'm refusing to use the robe of vecna out of principle [img]smile.gif[/img] (that and the elven avatar looks kewl in chain). don't get the amulet of power until chapter 3. i see i will need to reorder my spellbooks though.

funny, i never had a problem beating any liches with a party.

There always is the PfM scroll and the Vhalior Helm. IIRC, you should be able to use the Helm. Another option would be to cast Protection from Evil on yourself, beef up with Protection from Magical Energy and green scrolls of Protection from Cold, Fire, and Electricity (I can't remember what original Lichs cast), and wait for the Lich to cast Gate. If you can last long enough for his combat protections to end, you should be able to get in at least a few shots with the MoD. In order to do so, you'll need a few summons to distract the lich (even if he casts a death spell, send in new fodder). Eventually he will run out of spells and should fall readily.
