First off, BG and BG2 has ruined my concept of RPGs. I loved the Elder Scrolls series and NWN, among others, but now that I've played BG I love the ability to control a whole 'party', as opposed to just one or two characters. Anyway, I was just wondering if there are any mods for BG2 that either continue the story of BG2 or have a whole new story that can be played out. I'm loving the game system so much, I want it to continue!

Throne of Bhaal is the official expansion, otherwise there are loads of mods, one of the stickies at the top directs you to a complete mod list, just make sure you install them in the correct order (check read-mes,or search forum), and use your discretion, some aspects of mods can be seen as cheating or causing unbalance, ie superpowerful weapons, but its up to you to decide how you want to play the game.
The mods cover everything from new quests, weapons npcs, fixed/improved aspects and they vary in size and complexity. Some of the best, imho, are unfinished business, tactics (makes the game harder, so probably not for a newbie), virtue, i could go on... |
If you're looking for a completely new game there's not much available, though some are in the works. Go to http://www.dragonlancetc.com for the Glory of Istar TC, set in the Dragonlance setting, which has a demo available.
BG1 Tutu from http://www.pocketplane.net is also something that may be of interest if you own BG1. It allows you to play the BG1 story in the BG2 engine, with better resolution, kits etc. |
Andyr is right, most just add quests to the existing game, but a couple extend past the end, the darkest day and another i've forgotten, but i found TDD to be a bit too buggy, may have improved now though.

I'd not recommend TDD.
For quests you might consider Quest Pack and Unfinished Business from http://www.pocketplane.net |
If you have ToB installed, the Ascension mod adds a bit to the end, and then the Redemption mod adds a bit more. But I haven't played to the end with either of those installed, so I can't give my assessment of their quality--by the time I'm that late in the game, I'd rather start over with a new party.
I tend to prefer mods that don't affect the overall power balance of the game much: Things like Virtue, Unfinished Business, Banter Packs, Quest Pack, and balanced NPCs like Kelsey. Westley Weimer has also written (and compiled from other sources) several good mods, but with these you must be very careful to check the READMEs first: Ease-Of-Use is a good mod, but it can do some things you don't want. For instance, I see nothing wrong whatever with enlarging the Bag of Holding so that it can hold an infinite amount of items, that's a simple convenience issue. But I hate the cheat that allows a character to wear things like magical armor, a Ring of Protection, and a Cloak of Protection all at the same time. Happily, with all of Weimer's mods, you can choose which individual components you want to install, and which to ignore. Aragorn: "The old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost." Will it not fit in your sig? |
Someone messaged me about that, it didn't, but that was 3 years ago, and i had a pic as well at that time, maybe the amount you can have on has changed, as i manged to put it on now.
