i recently multiclassed my kensai at level 12, and its now about lvl 8 or so as a mage, and i only just noticed that when he levels up, he doesnt gain any aditional hit points this is annoying, is it a bug or is it suppost to happen

Armen 01-12-2005 06:01 AM

you mean 'dual-classing'

it's not a bug - it's what's supposed to happen

you'll start getting additional HP (2 per level assuming 16 or higher CON) when your mage level exceeds your kensai level

Klorox 01-12-2005 11:59 AM

CON doesn't affect hit points when you stop rolling dice.

BTW, it's too bad you didn't wait until level 13 to DC. Over the course of the game (w/ TOB), you'll miss that extra 1/2 attack.

Armen, Wizards only get 1 HP every level after Level 9, not 2.

A Fighter(12)->Mage's hitpoints will be 9D10 + (CON bonus * 9) + 9 + (Mage Level - 12).

So, if his Kensai->Mage is Level 8 Mage now, assuming he got 18 CON and maximum hitpoint rolls for his Kensai, he should have
90 + (4 * 9) + 9 + (8 - 12) = 131 hp.

yeah i did mean dual class. ok, also i read on the dual class faq that my fighter would retain his grand mastery ability in quarter staff, this didn't happen which is quite annoying

When the MAGE level EXCEEDS the FIGHTER level your character will get all of his old fighter abilities back,including grand mastery in the Quarterstaff, a lower THAC0 and an increased number of attacks.

ok, but thqats not what it said on te faq, it said it was a quirk and that a fighter regains his grandmaster ability

He will. When you reach level 13 as a mage. There aren't any stupid bugs like that out there I don't believe. Maybe there's some mod that does that, but not with a base install.

if his kensai had 2 stars in quarter staff, he dualed to mage and put a star in quarter staff while leveling up, does that mean when he gets his old abilities back he will get 3 stars in quarter staff?

timothy trotter 01-16-2005 10:00 PM

fair question, i dont know the answer. i had 5 stars in staff the dualed then got 1 star for my mage so i wonder what will happen. the only reason i got grand mastery in staff for my kensai was that i thought i retained the kensai grandmasery in staff while i was still only about lvl 8 wizard. i think ill change these stars to something more appropriate such as hammer and sword or something
