Hey guys,

I dont remember which weapon categories are suitable for backstab attacks.

I consider other weapons for my Assassin than short sword or dagger ( though they are pretty cool, too )

oh and btw,
ive started posting in this forum just a few days ago (until now, i was reader only) ;) and i want to say that you guys are very kind and helpful, thank alot! ;)

Oh, and krunchyfrogg, dont feel insulted, okay? ;)

All melee weapons usable by a (single class) thief if I recall correctly.

... therefore clubs and staves can 'back bash' along with 'back stabbing' scimitars, wakizashis, ninja tos, long swords, katanas, and the daggers and short swords that you've mentioned.

Some items designed for other classes (such as The Staff of the Woodlands and The Staff of the Magi to name but two) however cannot be used to back stab.

Best of luck!

You're right, its anything a single class thief could use. Such things as the Staff of the Magi can't be used by single class thieves, so you can't backstab with it.

Thanks Kyrvias.

I was mindful of the 'Use Any Item' HLA, where a single class thief actually can use the Staff of Magi ... but that's a 'Throne of Bhaal' add-in that I'm not sure if Karrde has or not.

Kyrvias 11-10-2005 09:32 PM

Hmm... That makes me think... Tehcnically, thieves can't use the staff without hte Use any Item HLA... but could they still backstab with it? Backstab with carsomyr?

Time for seom testing :D

krunchyfrogg 11-10-2005 10:30 PM

Don't bother testing, they can not.

Eventually you can backstab opponents with weapons such as Carsomyr, yes. Suffice to say that Throne of Bhaal has more dangerous weapons than the forementioned one.

Are you sure Link? UAI does allow the thief to wield such weapons, but since they don't fall into the useable only by single class thieves category surely they are unsuitable?

Karrde 11-11-2005 08:32 AM

Well, my hero is a Fighter / Assassin, so it would be interesting to know if im restricted to thief-only-weapons aswell.
Or if i can use fighter-weapons with the backstab skill.

Oh, and i have ToB installed with nearly any common fix/ mod.

Right now, Im using short sword proficieny (5 stars) and single handed weapon with Kundane. didnt know that Kundane gives an extra attack too, i just read it somewhere in this forum.
Does short sword of backstabbing also increase the multiplier? Or is ist just a very fast (speed 0) +3 weapon?

Maybe i ll change my prof. points later (dont think that this would be kinda cheatin ;) )into another cooler weapon.

I was also thinking about dual-wield, but on the other hand, its not that kinda stylish. assassins would act with one deadly weapon very swift, and single-wield is very nice for that improved crit and AC bonus.

I was thinking about longswords, dagger, katana and scimitars. The possible weapons are influenced by item upgrade.

5 points in dagger maybe rule too, there is a certain kinda dagger built from pixie prick etc.
5 points in katana would be nice for CF.
longswords: daystar and equalizer, later angurvadal.
But im not sure. katanas and longsowrds are medium size, i cant imagine you can attack very fast with such long weapons (some roleplay aspect ;) )

There were some voice around here saying that short sword proficiency kinda suck.
But IMHO, the initiative does really make the difference for sneak attacks. Plus, i will hit more often thru my fighter THAC0 progression.

Maybe interesting to know that i have another short sword wielder in my party: Haer'Dalis and his smooth blades (which i ll upgrade at cromwells)

Yeah, I think when you try to backstab with weapons such as Carsomyr you get a "weapon not suitable for backstab" message. I could be wrong though as I've only started playing the game again after a long break (memory is fuzzy on quite alot of things).
