What character were you playing the time you had the most fun on a solo journey through Baldur's Gate 2?

I've been testing the waters with a few different characters, but have yet to find one that really clicks for me. I'd love to hear your stories and get some inspiration!

TIA!

Sorceror was wicked easy, a Kensai=>Thief was fun for the challenge. Maybe the coolest (most different from normal powergaming classes at least) was a Fighter/Druid. Remember that, especially without the huge gauntlet of cheese that is Weimer-world, you can solo just about anything - take advantage of it. Currently, I'm refining a build that will be really tough but really fun and powerful - a Swashbuckler(25)=>Cleric. Just mess around and do whatever you like, be it spellcasting, tanking or backstabbing.

One thing I've found has made my solo runs more interesting has been the Refinements mod, which redoes the HLAs. Specific kits and classes matter more, and it stops me from doing UAI/Assassinate and GWW runs on my solo characters.

My first solo was an evil Elven Assassin. What a run that was. Poisoned weapons, potions of invisibility... Using Shadowkeeper to make him look like a Shadow thief...

Really fun. People should try it sometime :D

My first ever game was with an Archer which I solo'ed through BG2, and later on through TOB.

I later did it with a Wild mage which waas the best fun I have had in the game ;)

Sorcerer without a doubt. ;) Blade was also very fun.

the only solo i've completed was with an archer (themed 'hunter' character - bow, spear, dagger, axe) - my gaming style tends towards the sneaky so she fitted in with that nicely although once she had a few GWWs and impaler spear she turned into a melee character

solos that i've started but abandoned (usually around chapter 4)

kensai (13) -> thief (daggers) - fun to nurse the low kensai levels and fun to get the thief over the kensai - fun to glory in the power - then i got use any item and the difficulty spiralled down to zero - abandoned shortly after

monk - fun and different to start with but once you get that magic resistance difficulty spirals down . . .

assassin (high level) -> cleric - a really interesting and powerful build - i waited until i had UAI and the x7 backstab before dualling to cleric - UAI applies to your cleric only levels as well so wands etc. are all available during this tricky period - the cute bit is that with UAI your sharp and piercing weapon proficiency points come back when you re-activate the thief so you get a proficient katana (or whatever) wielding cleric (something a multi cleric/thief can't do) - gave up soon after re-activating the assassin

Skald - quite fun actually - strong - rapid levelling means your spells acquire power quickly - i liked him but stopped quite early - can't remember why

your mileage may vary of course - they're all worthwhile solos i reckon

armen, does that mean when your thief levels re activate, you can put points into pointy weapons? or you can only use the points you gained while in theif?

Andraste 04-26-2006 03:16 AM

Sorcerer was fun to start with, but it soon became too easy to be fun and I gave up in disgust after:

happened to me - it's a true story BTW.

Avenger for me was the most fun- the story was referenced in a thread not too long after. My feelings mirror those of Andraste... Sorcerer was fun initially, but once my levels started soaring and I started torching towns and making Cowled Wizards teleport in so Neutral Good me could kill them for fun and profit, I knew it was time to move on.
