I keep seeing references to having my thief locate and disarm or clear traps. Having her locate them is no problem, but how does she disarm them? The only way I have been able to clear any traps is to save the game when I find them and have my strongest character walk through them & hope that s/he survives. There has to be a better way (doesn't there?)! Would appreciate any help anyone can give me.

This confused me for a while when I started out and what you need to do after detecting the trap is select the thieving icon (the one that's an eye mask) and move your pointer over the trap. The pointer changes to an animation to indicate that you can attempt to disarm. Click then run away as a secondary precaution. Good Luck. Also this same icon changes animation if you point to locked doors/chests (ie pick locks) or point at NPC characters (ie pick pockets).

Thanks for the reply. That was one of the few things I hadn't tried. I had tried tripping them with swords, arrows & other weapons. In the spider area of Cloakwood, I had a mage or cleric use protection from magic then trip the traps and walk away. That worked since they were all webs, but then everyone had to stand and wait for them to disapate. I'm in the Cloakwood mines now and really need to disarm them since they tend to kill people. Thanks again.

You seem to know this pretty good, but my Thief (Imoen) is level 7 with Open Locks 85%, Stealth 70%, Find Traps 85% and Backstab only 25. I can find all of these traps in Durlags Tower, but the traps wont disarm. I have even tried Thief potions, but that doesnt work either.

Your Detect/Disarm Traps score should be 100% before entering Durlag's, because that place is simply Trap Hell, as I'm sure you've noticed. Some Traps are easier to disarm than others, and naturally Durlag spared no expense to have the traps guarding his nightmare be as difficult as possible--most of them need 100%, and there are some Traps in the game that CANNOT be disarmed at all (and there's one trap in Durlag's that can't even be SEEN, and continues to fire each time it gets stepped on).

You say "Thief potions don't work." Are you referring to Potions of Master Thievery? Remember to read item descriptions before you attempt to use them for something they won't help you with.

Don't feel you're under any obligation to beat the whole tower right now--you can always leave and come back later in the game if you want.
