I have matched the colors of the torches w/ the colors of the triangles, but still cannot get the door open. Is there a specific order for them?

As far as I know there is no particular order in which the torches must be lit. Double-check the colors is all I can advise. You have all three bottles of oil right?

Yes, Red, Blue and Purple. Here's the color pattern I beleive is correct:

Red Purple
Red Blue
Purple Red

Is this right, or am I more color blind than I think I am?

Okay. In the antechambers on either side of the machine of lum the mad, (NOT the gith or illithid lairs) there are three colored triangles. The ones closet to the torches correspond to the correct colors for the left set of triangles, and the ones to the right of the machine correspond to the right set of torches. If you match up the torch colors to the proper triangle colors, you'll be good to go.

This I know. That's what I've done, IMHO. Once again, here's what I think is right:

Red Purple
Red Blue
Purple Red

If this is NOT correct, please just tell me what is. If it IS correct, then I've got a bug.
