Without Major Story or Battle spoilers!

Are there any non-upgradable weapons in BG2 that your are still using.
Actually extend this to all items....ie rings armour..etc.

Do any of you guys use shields?

I have my two priests on shields.

I haven't come across any shields better than what is in SoA, as of yet...

I don't recall that there are any ungradeable shields, either...but maybe I just haven't found one yet...

Don't worry, it is WELL worth the wait. As for weapons and items (excluding the non-upgradable ones in ToB and bonus merchant items) that I still use carryforwarded from SoA are:
Weapons: Celestial Fury, Crom Faeyr, Stone Fire, Frost Reaver, Vorpal Blade, Warblade, Blackblood ... etc;
Items: Ring of Gaxx, Ring of Earth Control, Ring of Holiness, Ring of Protection (+1 & +2), Ring of Acuity, Amulet of Power, Gauntlet of Weapon Expertise, Girdle of Inertial Barrier, Boots of Speed, Boots of Avoidance, Cloak of Mirrors, Cloak of Sewers, Helm of Balduran, Dragon Helm, Fortress Shield, Dragon Scale Shield, Shield of Harmony ... etc;
Armor: Cloak of Good Arch-magi, Red Dragon Scale, Shadow Dragon Scale, The Night's Gift, Gorgon Plate ... etc

There's a great +4 shield on a certain redhead outside of the first city you are in in ToB! Pretty good armor, too! It replaced the Red Dragon armor on my Cav. Gave it (the RDA) to Jaheira, so now she looks even hotter...
