Is there any way to alter the NPC dialogs? I am tired of Shar-Teal's snide comments, but I don't want to punt her or shut everybody up.

Also can you change NPC's portraits? I would rather use Viconoa's pic from BG2 than the one in BG1.

Hmm, as for changing the dialogue scripts for NPCs I'm not sure. The script would be the text that appears when you meet them, when they threaten to leave, or leave, or for fights that break out, etc. Try www.teambg.com for that. As for the lines they speak--which I think is what you're referring to--those belong to the soundset, and I'm not sure if you can replace NPC soundsets with custom ones or not. Again try Team BG.

To change the portrait of an NPC, name the custom portrait you prefer with the first six letters of the NPC's name followed by L and S for the large and small portraits, respectively. Then place those protraits in the Override folder. One exception to the this rule is Viconia, whose name should get the full seven letters, i.e., ViconiaL rather than ViconiL. Not sure if that applies to all NPC names longer than six characters, but I haven't tested them all yet.

In the options there is a place when you can set how frequently a character says things when you select it, make it attack, walk or anything, etc. If you set it to seldom instead of always it will help.

It took me a couple weeks to figure out there there's a catch to this. Some of the names are hard coded as all caps and won't work unless you follow that format, even if you have the right letters. For details on which names are all caps, use the Infinity Explorer and check out the pic names for the character you want to change.
