IMHO Imoen is a good enough thief. You can use potions if need be to boost her thieving skills.

It would help to know what is your PC's class, so that we can evaluate which NPC you can remove out and which NPC to replace him/her.

MINSC!! what has he got to do with a thief?? Anyway... Go for Imoen shes the best choice!

I prefer Imoen myself also, not only cause of her thief skills but because as she has leveled up Mage so much, with Dragon Breath and Comet and summon Avatar spells, etc., she is almost as powerful as my necromancer character. Almost.

Also she makes great with illusion spells. I have her cast mirror image, mislead, simulcrim, improved invisibility, mass invisibility, etc. Unless someone casts true sight they can never get to her. And if they do I just cast more illusion spells. Usefull cause the only drawback to being a necro is you can't use illusion spells.
