besides making you lose a point of constitution or taking up a slot in your inventory? i have a pseudo dragon, and its so called advice is pretty worthless. still, i suppose its nice to have a pet.

I think thay are just plain fun. They do have extra abilities though, for example I used to use my rabbit as a scout, to scout ahead with stealth and detect traps, when I wasn't using him I would place him in the back pack to avoid losing a point of constution.

For people playing solo thay actually give you a few abilities that you would normally not have access to so then you may find them slightly more useful.

I think mostly though thay are just fun and it is nice to have a pet.

They give you half of their hp. If the dragon has 24 hp, you get an additional 12 to your total.

I just use them as an xp bosting item. There is no point in leting the out when they have 20 hp and the average ennemy is level 20 and can deal 50+ damage per round.

Its as close to a tamogotchi as your going to get in BG :D

I also found that if your inventory is full and you are given several quest items when talking to someone, you can actually drop your familiar on the ground.

You are not normally allowed to dump your familiar on the ground like this. Therefore you can summon a SECOND familiar and get another 12hp, with no loss of the 12 bonus HP you got for the first familiar.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

/me inhales cheese.

Bit of a bug exploit, but there we have it

Are you sure? Even though your Familiar is no longer in your Inventory, I think the game still knows that it isn't dead, and therefore disallows summoning a second one.

You can also "lose" your Familiar by leaving it out of your pack and going from one place to another: Familiars can indeed travel through doorways and between map areas, but they're not too good at it and can get left behind.

I think so. Items left on the ground vanish after a couple of days...

I think it'd have to be one of those things that'll have to actually be tested first...

Will let you know when

Six, i'm quite sure Dace De'Briago is right about recreating your Familiar...
I heard of people doing it quite a few times, and it's certainly not inconceivable that the Infinity Engine will behave like this.

Why not remove it with ShadowKeeper?
And why not simply give 12 HP with ShadowKeeper?

Thin is the line between cheese and cheat...
