Who has played Baulders Gate. I saw it at the store but wasn't sure if I should buy it. If you've played it tell me what you do and compare it to another game like starcraft or warcraft.

Thanks a lot

You make it hard, ;) these games being real-time strategy while Baldurs Gate is roleplaying, but I'll give it a go... :D

first off forget Starcraft (who needs wussy laser cannons when you have fireballs and lightning bolts). Now, take one of the knights from Warcraft and pretend that you are that character; you control his inventory - what armor he wears, what weapon he uses (from puny daggers to magical halberds and two handed swords) and who he travels with - up to five extra companions, from dwarven clerics to elven mages to gnome illusionists to human thieves to... the list goes on.

It has a great storyline, fantastic quests along with everything that Lavindathar said... and it's no longer a full priced game (it'll be in your local bargain bin).

I fully recommend buying it, but then I would say that wouldn't I! hehe

I am not familliar with Starcraft or Warcraft, but I have heard Starcraft is a bit like Total Annihilation... In Total Annihilation you build build huge armies that wage great campaigns. In Baldurs Gate you literally have to worry about what shoes to wear!

BG is a game of tactics instead of strategy. Magic arrows cost real money that you must go out and kill (real?) hobgoblins to steal. Sure you could kill that pesky wolf with a wave of a magic wand, but wands cost money while beating it to death with a club is free, unless of course it bites you!

BG has grey areas where you don't know what the right solution should be. Characters lie to you. Enemies may become allies. Some of your allies want to kill each other.

I have played through several time over about two years and it is still a good game. By now I know how it ends, but there are many paths to that end.

If you like role playing games, this one is absolutely fantastic...Probably the best that I have played...I can not wait to see what Baldur's Gate II is going to be like!
