I am going to attempt to install my first mod. Is there anything I should know or do prior (being a mod rookie). I have windows 98 and consider myself a PC illiterate.

It might help to know what MOD you had in mind.

If you're going for one of the WeiDu MOD's, it's pretty simple - just download it, de-compress it (by double-clicking on it & telling it where to go - your main BGII directory), then going to your main BGII directory & double-clicking on the SetUp file. All done, aside from telling it what language you want.

If it's something else, you can generally follow the same instructions, though if you intend to install more MOD's in the future, the order becomes important (all non-WeiDu MOD's first, then WeiDu's in any order), although some may not be compatible with each other.

Most MOD's assume you have both the ToB patch & the Baldurdash patch (in that order) installed, so you might experience problems if you don't.

In any case, fear not! If you experience any deadly (to your install, I mean) problems, you can always Uninstall BGII (which will also uninstall ToB, but will leave your Save games) & then re-install from the discs from scratch & be right back to where you started (other than your game settings - difficulty, Autopause, etc.).

Hope that helps...

Another way to avoid having to re-install the entire thing is to back up the following files and folders:

Chitin.key (main BG2 folder)
Dialog.tlk (main BG2 folder)
BGMain.exe (main BG2 folder
Override Folder

If you screw up your game, simply delete the override folder, restore your backup, and overwrite the existing .key, .tlk, and .exe files with your backups.

Also, if you had WeiDU mods installed, make sure to delete weidu.log when you restore your game. There's no need to back it up.
