Should I save it for either DARKFIRE or TARALASH I think it is called?
And how much more powerful would it b if it was made with FIRETOOTH?
Would it b a waste?
But should I wait until I get the others?

It completely depends which weapon you're specialized in.
E.g. if you want it for Mazzy go for the Short Bow, if you want a Crossbow for Keldorn take Firetooth. All of them are little more than a +5 ranged weapon, no exceptional attributes. Firetooth has its own ammo, but "fire" is the most ommon immunity and +2 is not THAT great (Gesen does a lot better).

If you look in your manual, it will tell you all the items that you should hold onto that can be used to upgrade other items.

The decision depends on how you're playing your game. I tend to use it for Taralash, because I usually don't need Firetooth and I'm usually not evil enough to get the Darkfire bow.

another consideration is the tarlash gives you a movement increase, which is not as good as a set of boots of speed, but does allow an archer or minsc to wear boots of preservation from the tactics mod..or a fighter mage, or berserker mage dual...

to my experience, a firetooth firing bolts of biting does more damage per hit than any other ranged weapon in the game...yes, a longbow does more attacks per round, so its kinda hard to tell which weapon does more damage per round, so i usually use both...usually sola has tarlash, and boots of preservation and minsc has firetooth...

the one thing i don't recommend is upgrading darkfire...sure the improved haste is nice, but for mazzy, one of the improved cloak of protection with ability to cast improved haste on wearer is more than enough..besides, she is much better off with the gesen or tulgan bow...elemental damage, punches thru stoneskin, and with non magical arrows, goes right thru protection from magic weapons...ulgan, she can put out so many arrows per round its sick...
