I liked Icewindale and I was wondering if Heart of Winter is worth a purchase. What exactly does it do? Can you get new weapons? Can you go to new areas? Can you go to higher levels? Let me know!

The bad:
1. The adventure itself is straight-forward, pretty linear, and relatively short. 2. No new non-summoning level 9 wizzy spells (sucks for the invoker). 3. You have to start the adventure before you reach a certain point of the original game. And you have to start HoW before you reach a certain point in HoW. Of course, both can be skirted by importing characters into an expansion only game, but... 4. Containers (good #8) don't get exported. But it beats not having them. The indifferent: 1. Changes around a few schools for specialist mages. So if you have one in an existing party, he may not be able to scribe a school he used to be able to previously. The good: 1. Druids and bards made fun to play and are now great classes. Druids get new spells and shapeshifts, bards get new songs. The fighter/druid is very powerful and a party with a druid and a bard as well. 2. New screen resolutions. No more 640x480. And you can turn off parts of the in-game user interface. 3. New voices, portraits. Only a few, but they are all nice. 4. New items... something besides swords (and what swords there are tend to be short swords, scimitars, or bastard swords)... and of course some new spells for casters. 5. You can go up to level 30 max now. 6. New higher level of difficulty (Heart of Fury aka HoF mode) 7. Trials of the Luremaster (TotL). A free downloadable expansion... usuable only if you have HoW. This pretty much fixes bad point #1. 8. Containers! Put those pesky potions, scrolls, and gems into containers and get them out of the way. With TotL, the bag of holding, no more inventory woes. 9. Some new foes added to old areas, as well as some new items for sale. If you love Icewind Dale, then I say get it. But be sure to download TotL. |
I thought it was worth it but only because Black Isle has given us the free add-on Trials of the Luremaster (TotL). To play TotL you must have HoW. There is a certain order in which to play so if you would like to know just tell me.

thats basically it i played new HoW, at HoF mode.found it borng, linear. strategies are always the same when you play HoF mode if not for HoF, it is a good CRPG game, however, if you really into stratgied based action, play Diablo II with its expansion |
