First....I'm new to any ADD game. Learning, but still stupid.
Current issue: I have a level 3 Bard that has written spells and can memorize them, but when I try and use them, they are greyed out and not usable. Why and what do I need to do to make the Bard able to cast? Thanks in advance.......... |

Try removing any armor your bard is wearing and then returning to the main screen and selecting a spell to cast. Basically, any form of armor other than elven chain mail interferes with the casting of mage spells. |
Thanks. I will try that.
IWD Good News/Bad News: Very complicated game!! I'm either going to hate it, or become a fan. (If you become a fan, do you think Diablo or Might & Magic are a joke for being so simple?? [favorite games at the moment] Just wondering........) |
First as far as the armor goes try Cyril Darkcloud suggestion but by 3rd edition rules I thought that you could cast in any armor but had a chance of spell failer. Second if you become a fan (in my opinion) you learn to liek the other games for their str's and weakness. IWD2 promised to be a complex thinking hacking game where as you might somtimes find yourself in the mood for a simiple run and kill game like Diablo. It will just depend on the mood you are in. I know that I will be going back and forth between IWD2 and EQ for quite awhile.
My 2cps worth Vornae |
Vornae, IWD1 is a 2nd ed game. Therefore Cyril is correct, armour will screw up mage spells. Although with the way IWD works you can enter the inventory, remove armour, cast, replace armour and stand a fair chance of not being hurt. Elven Chain should be grabbed at the first oppertunity though, because this procedure gets very annoying.
And yes, after IWD diablo will seem childishly simple, but still fun in short goes. |
DOH...my bad I thought for some reason he was talking about IWD2. Should have read the post better.

It true about the armour thing.....but it may also be possible that you have given the bard spells to learn and not rested - the learning is only complete once resting after inserting a spell into a slot. That can also make spells seem 'ghosted'.
(although it is probably the armour problem...) |
Heck, I thought that I turned IWD (without HoW) thru and thru (3 times) and I never found elven chainmail. Where did you get it guys?
|
IIRC it's on Kaylessa in the Severed Hand of the Seldarine.
|
Elven chain, I believe, occurs as a random treasure drop from Kaylessa in the Severed Hand, thus it's not surprising that someone might play through this chapter of the game one or more times and not run across it.
