I'm chugging along in chapter 1 of IWD. Is it better to install Heart of Winter now? Or to finish IWD first and then add it for extended play? I installed TotSC in the middle of Baldur's Gate and enjoyed it, although it may have changed the play considerably walking to Durlag's Tower and cleaning it out before I ever got to Ulgoth's Beard.

Well... HoW is almost exactly same as ToTSC except that its not always easy to go back to the original areas from the HoW areas (i.e once you go there you have to finish part of the quest before you can go back) but really once youre there you wouldnt want to go back till you're finished... I say install it now because it also changes the items and the rules a little.... Make sure you get ToTL also.

I may be very dense, but what is ToTL? I haven't run across the expanded name yet.

Trials of the luremaster which is an official expansion pack available for free download (it was made seeing how HoW was rather short)... it also has the latest patches so i really advice to download it...

Oh, yes! You should definitely install HoW, now. It adds many substantial benefits long before your party is eligible to enter the HoW/TotLM areas. Search this forum on HoW and read why.

There is no doubt that you should install HOW now as it allows you to buy new items and does influence the rules slightly. If I remember right HOW also gives you some new portraits for your characters as well.
