Hello everyone!


I've posted this problem on several forums but either no one replys or they've never heard of it.

I'm trying to continue playing IWD from where i left it a few years ago - middle of Chapter 2.
Thing is that i have no text in the game - like the buttons or anything else for that mater that has text written on it. I don't even have text on the pop-up windows that asks you if you really want to quit when you press ALT+F4!

What is particularly disturbing is that i tried the game on 2 completely different systems : my current system and something much older. One of them is running Windows XP SP2 and the other is running Windows 98SE, and they both have the same problem.

I really want to finish the game, and it seems that i have no luck in trying to fix the problem.

BTW, my game is patched with the latest patch and have no mods installed. I also get no errors during install. I've also tried running the game unpatched or with different patch version, and it didn't work.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Do you have TotL installed? that is the only latest patch. other stand-alone patches aren't latest.

I'm not sure if that will solve your problem but it's worth a try...

I presume when you played it before few years ago everything was fine? Can you install it on same system you had back then? It would help to find out if the problelm is with the CD or with your system...

I don't have TotLM but ican try that...i think.

Unfortunately i can't reinstall it on the same system i played it back then as i don't have it anyomre :(

Running IWD/HoW/TotL on a more recent OS shouldn't make a difference. I'm on SP2 with no problems.

Do you have the appropriate version of DirectX? I think you want 8.0 or thereabouts. They aren't backwards compatible, so a higher version might cause problems.

OK, i can't try TotLM cause i do't have HoW... And installation says i must have HoW... :(

DirectX *is* backwards compatible. DX10 will not be backwards compatible, and it's not for sure.

I have DX9.0c. I need it for oher games.

<font face="Verdana" size="3" color="#009999">This happened to me before when I started the TotLM part of the game (after talking to the halfling). Since it was in the TotLM part of the game I thought it had to do with the install.

I could not find a way to fix it except to reinstll the game again which is a bummer when you are that far along.</font>

You can make a backup of the save games folder if you have to reinstall. It shouldnt be a problem as long as you dont have any "weird" mods..

Why reinstall a 6th time? What point? I haven't even copyed my savegames yet...

What i've noticed something : i choose a full install everytime, that requires 1,35 GB free space. Well, the game has only 1 GB installed on my computer.

Not only that, but CD 1 finishes at 38% and CD2 is required. I insert CD2 and install continues from 51% - this is dubious...


EDIT : I've tried a Recommended install and it just stops at 82% and get the DirectX question and the BG2 movie.
