I've got all the stuff needed to do the ritual, but it tells me I can't finish the ritual untill I kill the evil deity.

When you start the ritual, Ixaxu Xvim (wathever the spelling) will talk to you, and then appear and fight you. You need to kill him, then you can finish the ritual.
