Okay, dont want anyone to spoil thiongs and tell me exact details but i need to start investing weapon proficiency feats into my characters. Are there good magical weapons for all weapon types ? ANy i wouldnt want to miss out on ? (forget the palladin sword though - i dont have a palladin.. period)

I am planning on giving my 4 melee charachters teh following:

Barbarian: Longswords + ?
Dwarf: Axes + crossbows
fighter: bows + great swords
cleric: maces + slings ?

i was thinking about flails or bastard swords ? any good ones in the game ?

I think there is a good bastard sword somewhere (I am a great fan of a bastard sword in each hand)... I read it in earlier threads... I don't use flails so I wouldn't know about that... for maces, I have yet to find a better mace than Belib's Everlasting torch (except for a particular fire orientated area)... basically I think that the weapon choices are really up to what you prefer from a role-playing view.

My fighter was using a bastard sword in each hands too. He had some nice weapons.

The game designers tried to give equal representation to all weapon types in the game. Heck, there are even some cool DARTS you can pick up. (Although why a mage would go through the trouble of enchanting a non-reusable dart is beyond me).

Personally speaking, the abundance and sheer variety of all the magical weapons in the game made me wish my characters had 4 hands and not just 2.

There are some decent weapons in normal mode. They go up to +4 (these available in chapter 5). There are also quite a few that have special abilities. I don't recall anything outstanding for flails offhand. But swords, axes, maces...yeah, you should find some good stuff.

Personally, I prefer my fighters to equip regular bows, rather than crossbows, so as to use the rapid shot feat. Rapid shot does not, alas, works with xbows. It does work with all other missile-type weapons.

If you have a lawful good fighter put ONE level of Paladin in him to get the Holy Avenger. Its a +5 Longsword.

And in the Hand there are a FEW +5 2-handed swords at the end of them game. "The Sword of the Souless"

Don't you suffer penalties for using hv weapons in your offhand?

One thing to think about with weapons is that you may want to have a blunt one planned for monsters that are immune to slashing/piercing damage. Slings are great for ranged combat, hammers/maces/flails/etc are great in melee as bludgeoning backups. And there's no shortage of magic ones.

There are better mace/clubs than Belib's Everlasting torch out there. In particular, there the one that you can get from winning one of the ranks in the battle squares. (intentionally leaving out details).

There are also some really good polearms (i.e. spears and halbreds).

Never forget that all 2 handed weapons get a 50% STR damage bonus.

I think the game would be SO much better if there were 2-h hammers. I mean, crystal golems would cower in the wake of a +4 2-h warhammer. Seems a bit unweildy though. Has anyone ever noticed all those holes in like battleaxes +3 and +4, the dwarves must have discovered the hole-puncher in 1012DR.
