<font color=lime>I am starting this thread so as not keep derailing the other.
I am in the Ice castle and am trying finish it. I am close, I know it ;) .
I figured out the painting deal and got to the treasure room where Nathanials ring is. Is that the only thing of Nathanials you get? And when I went to give it to him, he didnt ask for it? I assume thats becouse there is more stuff of his to get?
Also, I got to the room right next to it with the shadow trap dude and cannot figure it out.
Please spoil me, PLEASE.

I think you'll need to find 1 more item. it's nathaniel bag if I remember correctly. it's in south west room of lower temple.

nathaniel's bag is in the south west, but I think you have to use the lightning bolt machine which is in the centre of the area.
Aim the bolt south (i think) and shoot it. If all the doors are open it should go into the room with coffins. On the west wall is a coffin which opens, like a door. It shoots into the room with where the Talismon are, and open the doors to a storage type room.
And the shadow door works the same, using the mirrors around the corridor and the lightning bolt machine to open it (i'm 90% sure, its ages since i played IWD2)

<font color=lime>Well, I finally made it through that damn level! Was happy about that untill I entered "Fell Wood". Holy crap! I made it through that over the weekend, and some tylonol. ;)
I have thus come to the "Stone Gate", and just opened it, with ease I might add. ;) .
