A bard picks up a lot of stray knowledge while wandering the land and learning stories from other bards. A bard may make a special bardic knowledge check with a bonus equal to his level + his Intelligence modifier to see whether he knows some relevant information about magical items.
What does this mean? Is my Bards level just added to skills like Knowledge: Arcana and Alchemy when making a skill check? Does this special ability replace the two skills I've named above?

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure you can't replace KA and Alchemy with bardic knowledge. I tried it once and couldn't identify anything. I like to mc bards to wizard anyway, when I use them, so usually skill points aren't an issue. I've never relied on this "ability".

Nice sig, btw. :D

Thanks. Sounds like Bardic Knowledge is just fluff from the actual Player's Handbook, and has no effect on the game itself.

Oh well.

And thanks about the sig.
