It seems as that I can not figure out how to put the Bauble stick and its crystal togther. I have spent some time now attempting to use these two peices on one another with no avail. So if someone would just take a second and describe in DETAIL every thing that I must do to put it togeter.

They don't go together. You just use the stick to get the bauble, then use the bauble somewhere else. Maybe to open a door?

are you equipping the bauble stick, if so dont. select the use option in your inventory window and select the bauble stick. Click on the crystal and it should read thingymajig takes the crystal. The crystal will now be in that characters inventory. Go back up to the room were you entered via the broken staircase and look around the edge of the door to the lift you will see a receptacle on the wall us ehte crystal here in exactly the same way you used the bauble stick to open the lift door.
