I have enabled the view of dice rolls in my message window. Is it just me, or is the d20 die in BG loaded? I think I see a lot more hit rolls of one's and twenty's (critical miss and critical hit) than you would if you rolled the die by hand. Especially on saving throws you see a lot of 17, 18, 19 and 20 rolls.
Some other questions: What happens on a critical miss? What happens on a critical hit if the target is not protected by a helemt? (I have seen some of the monsters, that clearly are NOT wearing a helmet, taking a critical hit - and then you could read that the critical hit was averted by the 'helmet'???) A final question: Does strength bonus on damage and THAC0 also aply when using a bow (i.e. are all bows 'custom made' for the wielder)? Insane |
no - the dice aren't loaded. (except when rolling for STAT's ;) ) It's probably your imagination.
Critical Miss (d20=1) - always misses/fail and IIRC the character loses the reat of his/her attacks that round Critical Hit (d20=20) - always hits/succeeds and the target takes double damage - unless protected by a 'helmet' (some monsters count as having helmets) No STR bonus doesn't apply to bows - the DEX-modifier is added to THAC0 - damage depends on the type of arrow (no bonus) |
dice are loaded otherwise explain how my cheat guy with obscenly low thaco somehow hits hard people most of the time but things like gnolls and kobolds 1 in 3 bah some kind of weird bug going on, i got his thac0 down to -4 and he cleaves through hard stuff but even then it varies too much, i mean by rights i should only be missing on a critical miss there should be no other way to miss on the roll even if i roll a 1 because of the low thac0 but i still do miss and without criticals, bah to it, something funny, im going for loaded dice cos the computer hates me

AFAICT the dice are not loaded, but I havent studied the matter in any depth. No real way to do it either, except play and note every dice roll till you ahve a significant sample, say 2000 or more. Im not doing it, not this lifetime.

dice are loaded in every game i ever played on a computer, the computer hates me, hes got it in for me, im tellin ya!

I donīt think itīs loaded either. Still, saving throws tend to be over 10 more often than below it. Just a feeling.
|
yeah but your computer doesnt hate you

I'd like to believe that the dice are random but sometimes the odds of getting a certain sequence appear to be loaded. The number of times I've tried to learn a spell, with like 90% chance to succeed, only to fail about 4 in a row, is too often for my liking. Also luck and fatigue modify dice rolls, I think.

yeah i think its the modifiers that remain hidden, you see some but theres loads you dont see, like nighttime etc i think too if you dont have infravision

I'm in grungi's court. My computer hates me too. And comparing the computer's dice rolls to my PnP dice rolls, the computer's are loaded towards the monsters. Especially in BG2! Logic says it shouldn't be, but it sure seems it to me.
