Just got inside the building and went up some stairs. Found a trap but can't disarm it. Why not?

What about the hugh guards outside? Battle horrors or whatever. They take me down all the time. Need a little advice. Used dispel magic but it didn't seem to help.

Dispel? Why dispel?

Exterior:
There is a narrow ledge before you meet two Batle Horrors. Have one char cast Invisibility and block the way across it. Then stuff the Horror with missile weapons. Another tactic is hit'n'run: equip an archer with Boots of Speed and lots of arrows. Rest of the party should wait hidden somewhere.

Interior:
Generally, Durlag's Tower is laden with difficult traps. Drink a Potion of Perception (you should have a lot of these). If you still can't disarm it, then trigger it. Let fighter or mage with Mirror Image step on it.

Someone told me to use dispel magic.

Have already beaten those two you are talking about.

Well the trap wasn't important anyway. Could just walk another way and get to the other side.

you can disable almost every trap in durlags, some require very high skill in find traps for thieves over 100, sometimes even higher otherwise you cant disable them, there are about 3 or 4 traps in durlags which you cannot disable at all, there are some such as the ones to the kitchen behind pride/love etc which took me a level 9 thief with about 140 in find traps to disable

Thanks Grungi!

Hmm. What's the deal with those harcore traps? It ain't funny when you can't disable them.

From what I've seen, there is only one non-disarmable Trap in all of Durlag's Tower, and the pain of it is that it's non-detectable as well. So the only thing that can help you here is the good old Reload button.

As for the rest of the Tower, if you can see the Trap, you can Disarm it. 100% Traps is enough--a lower percentage might be sufficient, but I wouldn't advise going in there with less than 80%.

The way to deal with any difficult enemy is to understand its strengths and weaknesses. Battle Horrors and Doom Guards are immune to non-magical weapons and are very resistant to missile fire. They wield swords exactly like the one created by the Flame Blade spell (except that their Flame Blades won't expire after a certain duration). Since they are Undead, they should be immune to things like Sleep and Fear. From this information, try to work out your own strategy, instead of relying on "Someone told me to use dispel magic." You'll do much better once you understand why you're doing it.

Found 2 non-disarmable Trap and still not done in the tower.

Got 80%.

I joined this forum to get some help when needed Mr. SixOfSpades. If I had to try, try and try to find my own strategy then I would never have joined the forum (as help wasn't needed). Get my point?

Note that this isn't any kind of insult

As far as I can tell, the only truly non-disarmable one is the Non-detectable, repeating, Fireball trap in the kitchen hallway on WK -1. Where did you find the other non-disarmable Trap? I'll bet you a dollar that going up to 100% Traps would have worked on it.

In a perfect world, this forum would dispense tips & tricks only upon request, or as needed. But some people just love to show off how much they know about the game, and will gladly spout off about the very last fight of the game to some poor newbie who just asked a question about how to Backstab. So, to counteract that, I tend to be rather anal about spoilers and things. ;)

This forum is indeed a very good place to go when you're having difficulty with things like Battle Horrors. As long as you don't let anybody take you by the hand and spoon-feed you tips, you'll do just fine. I think that more general hints, like the ones I gave above, are best, because now you have enough information to work out a strategy, but I didn't work out a strategy for you.

You got a good point there Mr. SixOfSpades. Maybe I just misunderstood you. It sure is hints and not strategies I'm looking for. There is no point in playing the game if you have all the strategies.

Well I'm not a newbi (well a BGI newbi maybe) but I sure fell for that lam trick. Stupid of me.

Can't remember where I found the non-disarmable traps but it doesn't matter. They didn't seem to be important (couldn't even disarm them after drinking a portion, red bottle - sorry can't remember the name).

I hope that we're still cool Mr. SixOfSpades?

SixOfSpades 01-07-2003 12:53 PM

Oh yeah, we're still cool.

I'm still curious about that other non-Disarmable Trap, though. And you're referring to Potions of Power, right? IIRC, those have a rather short duration, so you might want to invest in some other, longer-lasting, Thieving potions as well: Nobody gets through Durlag's in one day.
