When I increase my strength with a level increase then my strength stat goes up and also the amount I can carry. When I use an ankh of strength. amulet of holding, or use 'ability' option with the lamp, then the stat goes up, but not the amount I can carry. I haven't been able to tell if using the other ankhs make any differences other than alter the stat number.
I am running the patched version. |
Welcome to the board, LIn!!!!
If the stat goes up - it's working. Never noticed a problem with an increase in strength not increasing how much you can carry. Maybe when you get back to town it will be adjusted? Anyone else have some thoughts on this? Wyv |
I think that carrying capacity is not readjusted until the next
level-up. Carrying capacity for a given character is just their body weight multiplied by a certain percentage based on strength. My guess is that the formula is carrying capacity = strength x 5% x body weight but I haven't played in a while so I can't verify that. Bear |
Welcome Lin and sorry that I haven't the answer for you.
But, don't use ankhs to early! That's my "tip for the day" http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/No...ML/005345.html Fallagar |

Bear is correct as far as the carrying capacity is concerned. It will be updated next level-up. Similar effects happen with other attributes, too. Therefore, the ankhs work. As far as the formula is concerned, I have no experience. Among others, the female carrying capacity seems to be lower than the male one.

The carrying capacity (CC) formula is based on the character's initial weight. Dwarves, Gourks, and Omphaaz can carry more because they weigh more initially. Humans, Lizzords, Whiskahs, and Elves can carry average-sized loads (Elves low average). Pixies, Gnomes, and Ratlings can't carry worth a cr*p because they're so initially light themselves.
I think a STR of either 16 or 17 means you can carry your weight. 18 or higher means you can carry loads more than your weight, by an increasing proportion of the intial character weight. -Sazerac |
The amount you can carry will change after you either enter town again or reload your save. I'm not sure if it will happen when entering a dungeon but I assume it would.
