Have you told "Ukabu" to the toad guard? He should let you pass after hearing this.
I suppose, Mekdawa told you about Ukabu when you delivered potion to him (if you did this quest, of course).

Hi Mia, welcome to the board.

I think you're refering to a toad being stuck in the tunnel. Right? If that's the case, have your mage cast a fireball or meteor on him. The trick is to kill him in ONE single blow. If you prolong it to more than one, he'll raise the alarm.

I would use ryanumar's plan, but i came back and KILLED THEM ALL for levels. and anyhow if you kill the shaman before you do the quest i do beleive you still get what you would have one (except the life up from the todems)

Why kill innocent toadems? why not just set the respawn to frequent then you won't lack for things to kill to level up!

What!!?!?! If you want levels, go visit Rumphy... you get the equivalent of 2-3 toad villages (includind Shimwiki) in one single kill!

I have been in and out of the village several times and never had to use any force...once you've said the "word" you need and are in the passages...sometimes you get stuck and it's just a matter of backing off and letting the silly toads wander a bit and then make a run for where you're headed ...that or just try and walk around them and crowd them...I know it's frustrating..but it does work and in the mean time you haven't killed any innocents and insulted any higher powers....LOL
